The final day of the World Series of Darts Finals, as with so many tournaments these days, sees the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final being played on another gruelling day for those involved in Amsterdam.
Only two seeded players have made it into this final day of the event which highlights that anything could happen over the course of the day. We’ll cover the quarter finals here but time restrictions will stop us from previewing the very latter stages.
Mensur Suljovic vs Krzysztof Ratajski
Two Europeans gets the final day of action underway when Mensur Suljovic takes on Krzysztof Ratajski for a place in the semi-final of the competition and in the case of the latter a first televised semi-final in the PDC.
I think the Polish star can claim that too. I mentioned on Saturday how the form of Suljovic is suddenly becoming a big concern and he did nothing to change my mind in that regard against Damon Heta. Ratajski has been in excellent form in recent times and looks to be feeling comfortable on a PDC TV stage now which is 90% of the battle. Ratajski won their only previous meeting this year and he can follow that up here too.
Michael van Gerwen vs Jonny Clayton
Two men who had to come through deciding legs in the previous round meet in the second quarter final of the afternoon as Michael van Gerwen takes on Jonny Clayton for the right to face the winner of the first game in the last four.
Clayton has shown signs of his best stuff in recent times and if he can produce that here he could offer up a competitive performance but it was clear to see how desperate MVG is to win in front of his home fans this weekend. Often in recent times we’ve seen him all over the board in the scoring phase but there was none of that on Saturday night. Ultimately I can’t see past the Dutchman here.
Ian White vs Danny Noppert
The third quarter final of the afternoon sees Ian White and Danny Noppert opposing each other in a match in which one of them is going to make a rare date in a televised semi-final in the PDC, so there is a big opportunity for the both of them.
White performed well to see off Peter Wright on Saturday evening but you can never truly be comfortable that he is going to play his best stuff on the big stage. Noppert saw off a very disappointing Gary Anderson in the previous round and there is probably more to come from him given that Anderson’s struggles will have brought him down a little bit. I think Noppert is a little overpriced here. He is pretty reliable on the big stage, he’s playing at home against an opponent who can flatter to deceive. I’ll take the Dutchman here.
Raymond van Barneveld vs Dave Chisnall
The last of the quarter finals is the pick of the matches on show on Sunday afternoon as the great Raymond van Barneveld continues his final appearance on home soil when he takes on a Dave Chisnall who is performing well at present.
This should be a great match. Barneveld looked in decent touch on Saturday evening and Chisnall has been playing well for a while. Something will have to give and given that I’m on Barneveld outright I truly hope it is the Chisnall form but I’m happy to let my outright bet serve as an interest here especially with the winner likely to be a very warm favourite for the semi-final.
