2020-21 CSA T20 Challenge Final – Dolphins vs Highveld Lions Tips and Betting Preview

The final of the CSA T20 Challenge takes place on Sunday when the top two sides from the regular phase of the season meet at Kingsmead in Durban as the Dolphins take on the defending champions Highveld Lions for the title.

These two have been far and away the best two teams in the competition so we should be in for something of a classic final to round off what has been a pretty successful event given all that is going on in the world presently.

Dolphins

The Dolphins went through the regular phase of the competition unbeaten which means that they made it straight through to this final. They had the day off on Saturday and will be looking to maximise that advantage here. The other confidence boosting thing they have on their side is that when these two teams played earlier in the season they didn’t just beat the Highveld Lions, they won by such a margin that they got the bonus point.

One of the reasons for the success of the Dolphins this season, and the main one in fact, has been their bowling attack. Their spinners have utilised conditions perfectly and they have a couple of medium pacers who have been particularly hard to get away too. With a couple of explosive batsmen who are coming into some form at the right time, the team whose home ground this tournament has been played on throughout will feel they have a great chance.

Highveld Lions

The defending champions have also been excellent in this tournament but for one run chase where they didn’t get going. The unfortunate thing for them ahead of this final is that the poor innings came against the team they are taking on here. While that is the negative, the positive is very much that they have played a knockout match already and cruised through it, so if there were any doubts over then that might have ended them.

The Lions have generally gone well with the bat and that has been the key to their success this term but they actually have it in them to field a complete international bowling attack which no other side in the competition can say they can do. If that attack really comes to the party then you would think the Lions are going to be a very tough side to dispose from the top table. Winning experience certainly shouldn’t be discounted in this match.

Betting

I’m not going to bet on the outcome of this match. That it because I backed the Highveld Lions before a ball was bowled in the competition and there has been noticed that I’ve seen since then that suggests that they are too big an outsider in this match. I’m not going to say for sure that the Lions will win this match because there are a couple of things that will decide it, such as the toss for instance, but I’m happy with the value I have on the Lions.

The other thing that could take the game away from the Lions is a big innings from David Miller so I will cover that in the hope that Miller top scores for the Dolphins but doesn’t do enough damage to stop the Lions from winning. Miller top scored in the other meeting between these two sides and followed it up with a classy 49* in his last game against Cape Cobras last time out so he’s in decent form and is the standout batsman in this Dolphins side. I’ll back him to lead the run scoring once again.
