2020-21 Premier League – Chelsea vs Brighton Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League season continues on Tuesday evening when another of the greedy six clubs will be in action attempting to pick up three more points as Chelsea host Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge.

We saw on Monday evening that there is an air of ‘what is the point in all this?’ although we won’t be getting any of that from Brighton here as whatever happens at the top end of the game, they need points to remain in the Premier League.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live across the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels with the build up to the game beginning at 7.30pm and the match kicking off at 8pm.

Chelsea

The Blues head into this match buoyed on the pitch by reaching the FA Cup final but under the same cloud that hangs over this that hung over the match between Leeds and Liverpool on Monday evening in terms of the proposed plans for the European Super League which their grubby hands are said to be all over. Liverpool claimed that news didn’t affect their preparations but the way they tired it could be argued that it did and that will be a concern for Chelsea here.

In terms of on the pitch Chelsea have progressed to the Champions League semis prior to upsetting Man City in the FA Cup semi-final at the weekend and if we ignore that hugely weird result to West Brom a couple of weeks ago, their form overall is very strong, even if they are not as entertaining to watch or score as many goals as some would like and perhaps many would expect. They are good at the other end though which is one positive.

Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton head up to the capital six points above the relegation zone and have this match and one more in hand of Fulham to strengthen their position. They have seven games left overall and you’ve got to think that six points will be more than enough to keep them in the division. Given that there are six matches left after this, you could consider this a free shot for Brighton to have a go and try and pick up three of the points they need.

Brighton are actually one of the better sides to watch in the division but while you enjoy watching them as a neutral they frustrate you too because they create chances against everyone but they just lack the composure to put enough of them away. If they had that they would sit comfortably in the top half of the table and would have no issues about relegation. The flip side of that is they have the ball enough that they don’t concede too many goals.

Team News

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is expected to be without Mateo Kovacic for this match but he could have the big Danish defender Andreas Christensen back from injury and his return could allow Thiago Silva the opportunity to be rested.

Brighton boss Graham Potter could have Adam Webster and Dan Burn available for selection in this match. He can also call upon the services of Aaron Connolly while Percy Tau is another option for the Seagulls coach.

Betting

I think Brighton have it in them to put up a challenge to Chelsea in this match but I do expect the Blues to have that little bit of extra quality through the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech et al to get the job done here. There is enough class in those three in particular to open up a pretty stubborn and solid Brighton defence and in what is likely to be a low scoring match that is likely to be the difference.

Given the issues that Brighton have in front of goal I was considering backing Chelsea to win this one to nil. I still wouldn’t put anyone off backing that but I’ve had a couple of occasions this year where a penalty has killed me or something equally as hard to call. With that in mind I’ll give myself a few more options and take Chelsea to win and under 3.5 goals at a similar price to the other bet. I don’t expect this to be high scoring but at least this option gives us the 2-1 which you’d say is in play. Either way this all points to a low scoring Chelsea win.
