2020-21 Premier League – Monday 14th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We have two matches to round off the first weekend of the Premier League season on Monday night and after the change was made to allow all the fixtures in September to be televised, we have ourselves a nice little double header to enjoy!

Four competitive sides will be on show to kick their season into life on what should be an interesting evening where we will see if the strengthening that has gone on pays early dividends or not. That has been the trend of the weekend so far.

Where to watch

The two matches will both be screened on the Sky Main Event and the Sky Premier League channels. The build up to the clashes begin at 5pm with the opening match kicking off at 6pm and the second game starting at 8.15pm.

Sheffield United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (18.00)

Two sides who spent much of last season chasing a spot in Europe only to be left disappointed meet in the opening match of the evening as Sheffield United entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers in a clash where both will be looking for the three points to fire their season into life.

Sheffield United were brilliant last season but there is always that second season doubt whereas Wolves have fully established themselves in this division and will now be targeting gate-crashing the top six good and proper. They are a side who should benefit from not having European football this season and it will be interesting to see if they hit the ground running here in a match they are more than capable of winning. I suspect the Blades will struggle this season but I’m prepared to watch this and see if their signings make any impression rather than take them on right from the off.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Chelsea (20.15)

The second match of the evening and the last of the opening weekend comes from the Amex Stadium where Brighton and Hove Albion will welcome big spending Chelsea for the second time in the space of a couple of weeks, after the two sides played out a test event for spectators returning in a friendly recently.

Chelsea go into the season with a lot more expectation on them this term after significant spending in the off season with the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner among those arriving at Stamford Bridge. When you spend that sort of money you need to make an immediate statement on the pitch and that is exactly what the Blues will be looking to do here. Brighton aren’t going to change their style under Graham Potter and they would love to set a marker down by knocking off one of the big boys.

I’m expecting to see goals here. Chelsea should score plenty of them this season with the attacking talent they have in their ranks but they haven’t really addressed the issue that needed rectifying, that being their defence. Brighton have a go even against the top sides and it would be no surprise if they find the net here. We’ve seen though that when they come up against the elite they can be there for the taking so over 2.5 appeals here even at 4/5.
