2020-21 Premier League – Monday 21st September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The second weekend of the Premier League concludes with another Monday Night Football, one which just like last week is a double header of action with four more teams looking to continue to get up to speed for the campaign ahead.

We get our first sighting of Manchester City and what their title challenge might entail on Monday night while Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa and Sheffield United all get to show us their credentials as well.

Where to watch

Both the matches are live on the Sky Main Event and Sky Premier League channels. The Monday Night Football programme begins at 5pm with the matches kicking off at 6pm and 8.15pm.

Aston Villa vs Sheffield United (18.00)

The opening match of the double header is a repeat of the first match after lockdown when Aston Villa host Sheffield United in a game between two sides who might be a lot closer to the relegation zone at the end of the season than they would like.

Sheffield United were mugged off in this fixture last season when Hawkeye decided not to work and cost them two points as the game ended 0-0. Since then Aston Villa look to have done some great business whereas I’m not convinced the Blades have addressed their lack of goals which is a major concern. I’ve tipped Sheffield United to be relegated this season and certainly didn’t change my mind after their loss to Wolves last week. Usually I would be wanting to take them on in this fixture but we’ve seen the two sides who didn’t play last week look off the pace this week. That’s enough of a concern for me to leave Villa alone here.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester City (20.15)

The pick of the two matches on Monday night is the second part of the double header when Wolverhampton Wanderers host the former champions Manchester City at Molineux on a night when Pep Guardiola and his men get their season up and running.

Wolves have a very good record over City, one which they will be looking to extend here and having played last week and won they might be at an advantage, although with the detailed preparation Pep Guardiola puts into his work that benefit might be minimal. Wolves have the ability to cause City problems regardless of how the former champions shape up though and given that the trend seems to be that teams need a game or two to get up and running there is enough to think that even if Wolves are beaten here they won’t be taken apart. I think the +1.25 Asian handicap is a little too high so I’ll take Wolves on that line.
