2020-21 Premier League – Monday 28th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The latest Premier League weekend concludes with another Monday Night Football which once again contains a couple of matches on a night where the title picture is in the spotlight even this early in the campaign.

Liverpool get the chance to steal a march on Manchester City after Pep Guardiola’s men were beaten on Sunday but they’ll have to play well to see off a rejuvenated Arsenal. The other match sees two teams expected to be at the bottom of the table meeting on what looks like a great night of action.

Where to watch

Both matches will be shown live on the Sky Main Event and Sky Premier League channels as part of their Monday Night Football program. That begins at 5pm with the first match kicking off at 5.45pm and the second one at 8pm.

Fulham vs Aston Villa (17.45)

The first match of the night sees the newly promoted Fulham side looking for their first points back in the Premier League when they host an Aston Villa team who will be looking to push on after surviving in their first campaign back in with the big boys.

Fulham offered up a lot of good things in defeat at Elland Road last week but ultimately were beaten and they will be eager to make up for that here. While they need to tighten up in defence having leaked seven goals already this term, what they don’t need is for that solidity to come at the expense of their attacking play, which in the main has been decent enough. Villa won their only Premier League match so far this season when they got the better of Sheffield United last week and while that win doesn’t look like it might do, it is something for them to build on here.

I’m expecting goals in this game. I think the only way Fulham are going to win matches this season is by looking to be positive and take the game to their opponents and they should find some joy against a Villa defence which isn’t exactly tight. There looks to be a better quality in the attacking options for Villa this term though and we’ve already seen this season that you don’t have to do anything special to score past this Fulham side. I’m surprised over 2.5 is odds against but I’m happy to take it.

Liverpool vs Arsenal (20.00)

The big match of the weekend is the last one to be played as Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield in what is a repeat of the Community Shield from last month, a trophy Arsenal won on penalties. Both sides carry perfect records into this encounter with them so something is going to have to give here.

Liverpool have been seemingly unstoppable at home for a couple of seasons or so which means if Arsenal are going to get anything from this match they will need to be at their best. Although they have tightened up significantly under Mikel Arteta, there is still a vulnerability about this Arsenal defence against the top sides in the division. On the flip side of that though they have goals in them against most teams.

Leeds United showed that this Liverpool defence can be got at and I’m sure that wouldn’t have been lost on Arteta and the Arsenal coaching staff. Matches between these two teams have often been high scoring through the years and there is little to suggest this one won’t be either. High scoring matches have been a theme to the start of this Premier League season and this one should carry on that trend. I like over 3 goals here.
