2020-21 Premier League – Monday 8th March Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend closes out with the Monday Night Football this week which consists of two matches as the race for the top four very much gets the spotlight on an evening where three of the challengers are in action.

Once again with the Premier League committing to showing all their matches via their broadcasters until supporters are allowed back into the stadiums, both these games are available to be watched on what should be a decent night of football.

Chelsea vs Everton (18.00 – BT Sport 1)

The opening match of the night is huge for the two teams involved as the sides fourth and fifth in the table going into the evening collide at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea host Everton in a game neither will want to lose.

Chelsea have turned their form around under Thomas Tuchel, which was to be expected, but you wouldn’t say they are completely convincing. They are a lot better organised though and don’t look as easy to get after as they did. Everton are another side who are much improved under their high class manager. Carlo Ancelotti might even have the bit between their teeth after his sacking at the Bridge a decade or so ago. His Everton unit are very good on their travels so this one shapes up to be an interesting contest.

It is one where I fear both teams might cancel each other out though. I say that because neither will want to lose and it remains to be seen how brave either of them will be to win. To be fair we’d be wise to expect a low scoring game anyway. Seven of Tuchel’s eight in charge of Chelsea have been under 2.5 goals and the one that wasn’t they scored for their opponents, one of only two goals they’ve conceded in that time. Everton arrive at the Bridge having won their last three, all without conceding but 2-0, 1-0 and 1-0. I don’t see this as a goal fest so under 2.5 goals looks fair to me.

West Ham United vs Leeds United (20.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)

The second match of the night promises to be an entertaining affair as high flying West Ham United put their top four credentials on the line when they host a very good to watch Leeds United at the London Stadium.

West Ham went into the weekend with the second best home form of all the Premier League teams this term. Only Liverpool and Manchester United have won at the London Stadium since the opening week of the season and there was more than an air of fortune about that United win. Leeds have gone very well this term but away form isn’t their forte. In saying that when they have been good they have been very good but when they have been bad they have been quite ordinary.

Leeds fans will tell you that their form in London is absolutely terrible and I’m not convinced it is going to improve too much here either. Jesse Lingard looks to have brought another dimension to this West Ham side and I think they will have too much. Usually I’d look for a bit of draw cover but Leeds haven’t drawn a single away game this season in keeping with their all or nothing return on the road. That makes me think it is worth chancing the West Ham win instead.
