2020-21 Premier League – Saturday 17th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League returns from the international break on Saturday with another four matches as the controversial decision to put the league on Pay Per View starts out. Thankfully the two better looking matches are on the normal channels so we can enjoy them.

It is a day where two fixtures standout but there are a number of big sides in action as they get their game out of the way to allow them to prepare for their Champions League outings in midweek. All four matches are on TV although you’ll have to fork out £30 to watch two of them.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)

Everton vs Liverpool (12.30 – BT Sport 1)

Chelsea vs Southampton (15.00 – BT Sport Box Office)

Man City vs Arsenal (17.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Sports Football)

Newcastle United vs Man Utd (20.00 – Sky Box Office)

Preview

The action actually gets underway with possible the most interesting match of the day as the leaders are in action in the Merseyside Derby. What makes it interesting is that those leaders are not Liverpool but instead their rivals Everton who will be looking to maintain their perfect record while the champions will be looking to bounce back from their humiliation against Aston Villa last time out. Once they are done the first Premier League game to officially be on PPV in the UK takes place when Chelsea host a Southampton team who’ll be looking to kick their season into life.

The second half of the day of football sees Pep Guardiola going up against his former assistant Mikel Arteta when an injury ravaged Man City team host an Arsenal side who are beginning to look quite competitive once again. The day concludes with another match that carries plenty of intrigue to it as Manchester United look to bounce back from their mauling by Tottenham Hotspur when they head to St James’ Park to take on what should be an improved Newcastle United side given the signings they made in the summer window.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the day in the Premier League which comes in the final match of the day where I’m expecting to see a few goals between Newcastle United and Manchester United. We don’t really need to go into the problems that Manchester United have at the minute but the interesting thing will be to see whether Newcastle believe they can win the game and actually have a go at them.

I think they will because although United are incredibly vulnerable defensively they do still possess goals in them going forward and this is a Newcastle side that have already conceded three to Brighton on this ground this season and could easily have shipped more than the one they did against Burnley. Man Utd have to win here so we know they’ll go on the attack but with Newcastle carrying a threat these days I don’t think it will be plain sailing for Solskjaer and his men. I like over 2.5 goals here.
