Preview

The action begins at Villa Park where Aston Villa will look to get back on the horse after getting chinned by Leeds United last week when they play host to one of the better away sides in the Premier League in recent times in Southampton. When they are done the leaders going into the weekend, Everton, will look to get back on top of the table when they go to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United. Everton will go back above their Merseyside rivals Liverpool with a win, one which they are favourites to get.

As is becoming the tradition at the minute the pick of the matches on Sunday comes along in the third game of the day when Manchester United host Arsenal in what used to be one of the biggest fixtures of any Premier League season. Whether it currently carries that importance is open to debate. Tottenham Hotspur round off the day when they look to move into the top four in the table when they host a nice to watch Brighton and Hove Albion side in the capital.

Betting

Two bets grab my fancy on Sunday and they come in the first and last matches of the day. The first one is for Southampton to beat Aston Villa in a match where I’m actually surprised the visitors are the outsiders to win here. Southampton have already won at Burnley and drawn at Chelsea this season and they must fancy their chances against an Aston Villa side who have been heavily overrated since their 7-2 win over a Liverpool side who just weren’t at the races that evening. Since then they edged out a win at Leicester and got thumped by Leeds. Southampton look so much better on their travels and have one of the most dangerous forwards in the league at present in Danny Ings. Kyle Walker-Peters looks a great addition to the Saints ranks and if he can keep Jack Grealish quiet I expect the visitors to leave the midlands with all three points.

Moving into the final match of the evening and I’m expecting goals in London when Tottenham Hotspur take on Brighton and Hove Albion. Brighton have scored in every match in the Premier League this season and there is no reason why that trend can’t continue against a Spurs side who have already shipped three to West Ham on this ground this term and who are still looking for a first home win of the campaign. Brighton are able to keep the ball and hit teams on the break or by unlocking the defence whereas Tottenham are loaded with firepower these days. The Spurs players should be fired up after Jose’s whinge about the fringe players after their Europa League defeat and so I’m expecting over 2.5 goals in this one.
