2020-21 Premier League – Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Leeds United Tips, TV and Betting Preview

A good looking weekend in the Premier League begins on Friday night when two of the last champions of the Championship battle it out at Molineux as Wolverhampton Wanderers play host to an entertaining Leeds United side.

Both teams start out the match in the bottom half of the table but have no fears over relegation but with a win here they could revive hopes of a strong end to the campaign which could yet yield European football next term.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live on the BT Sport 1 channel with all the build up to the action beginning at 7.30pm and the game itself kicking off at 8pm.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

After struggling badly to maybe not come to terms with the injury to Raul Jimenez but to cope in his absence, Wolves have now won two of their last three matches. You would be lying were you to say they were overly convincing throughout those outings but you can never criticise a team for winning, regardless of how fortunate it may have been. Winning creates confidence and Wolves definitely needed that while they go about coping without their talisman.

Wolves have traditionally been incredibly strong defensively but that isn’t so much the case these day with only managing to keep two clean sheets in their last 15 matches as they look to transition between three at the back and a back four. That brings extra scrutiny onto their attacking unit which has left their results mixed for a while, although with two wins in their last three there are signs that the tide might just be turning in that regard.

Leeds United

It has been said before but Leeds United have been the most entertaining team to watch this season. Their games are almost always full of goals whether they are scoring them or conceding them. You would expect that to continue over the remainder of the season with them having no relegation worries or anything that is going to create any anxiety in their play like we’ve seen creep in once or twice when they were trying to get promotion for example.

Only West Brom have conceded more than Leeds this season but on their travels it has been very much all or nothing for Marcelo Bielsa and his men with six wins and six defeats. They are yet to draw away from home and don’t really tend to draw many anyway. We can expect them to take the game to Wolves here and while that will leave them vulnerable, if they do take their chances they are more than capable of winning this or any match.

Team News

Nuno Espirito Santo confessed that Raul Jimenez has started training again but he is nowhere near close enough to a return. Daniel Podence and Willy Boly are closing in on full fitness but this match comes too soon for the pair of them.

Leeds United remain without key players in the form of Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo but they are set to welcome Diego Llorente back which could allow Luke Ayling to move back to right-back and shore Leeds up a little in the centre of the pitch.

Betting

As a punter I don’t trust Wolves and I don’t really want my money on the rollercoaster that is Leeds United so in terms of the match winner we either take a punt or we leave it and head elsewhere and I’m going to take the chance of doing the latter because I think goals are pretty likely in this game both with the way Wolves have suddenly started conceding goals in the last couple of months and the fact Leeds have never been able to keep them out of the back of their net.

You wouldn’t mind being with Leeds if teams had to work especially hard to break them down and score against them but that isn’t the case. They concede some very sloppy goals both from open play and from set-pieces. We know they are going to create chances and as long as they don’t have a mare in front of goal you expect them to score at some point. This is one of those matches where you wouldn’t be surprised if either side scored three themselves but with a combination of both scoring goals the over 2.5 goals looks the best bet in this one.
