The Premier League weekend concludes at Molineux this week when Wolverhampton Wanderers host the champions Liverpool in the Monday Night Football in a clash where all eyes will be on the visitors to see what they have to offer.
Liverpool’s struggles have been well documented but they tend to be much better away from Anfield. Wolves are not having the campaign that anyone expected of them so they will be looking to provide some joy to their fans here too.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live in full on the Monday Night Football programme on Sky Sports Main Event and the Sky Sports Premier League channels. The programme begins at 7pm and the match kicks off at 8pm.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
It is easy to say that the season turned for Wolverhampton Wanderers when Raul Jimenez suffered his nasty injury at Arsenal in the earlier stages of it, but actually it might have happened before then when they sold Diogo Jota to their opponents in this match leaving them very light in attacking areas, an issue which was further highlighted when the injury to the Mexican striker took place. Since then they’ve been searching for a formula but never truly convinced me that they have found it.
In the 18 matches Wolves have played since that Arsenal game, they have only won four of them which highlights their struggles. In that run they have lost to West Bromwich Albion and drawn with Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United. Wolves struggled to beat the lower sides with Jimenez but they have faltered against the better sides without much of a goal threat. Their defence has been opened up more regularly with teams having nothing to fear going the other way too.
Liverpool
This has been quite an amazing season for Liverpool. It began in a way where you thought they might even win the title by more than they did last term and now they are just grateful they have already got to 40 points with the way their form has dropped off a cliff. Although most of their struggles have come at Anfield, they have recent defeats to Fulham, Brighton and Hove Albion and Burnley on their ledger, which doesn’t make for good reading.
The positive for Liverpool as far as this match is concerned is that it is away from Anfield where in the Premier League they have won three of their last four including victories at West Ham and Tottenham. It is beginning to look more and more unlikely by the week but Liverpool aren’t completely out of the top four race yet but nothing less than a win here will suffice and keep them genuinely in that hunt.

Team News
Raul Jimenez is now back in training for the home side but he isn’t available for this game. Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo will also be missing Marcal and Daniel Podence who remain out with ongoing injuries.
Jurgen Klopp is to assess the fitness of forward Roberto Firmino ahead of the game but the form of Diogo Jota in the Champions League win last week may mean the former Wolves man keeps his place against his former club anyway. Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are among many who continue to miss out.
Betting
It is hard to picture a classic encounter here. Liverpool wiped the floor with Wolves in the reverse fixture but the champions were looking worthy of that tag then and it was the game after Jimenez suffered his injury so there was probably a little bit going on in the minds of the Wolves players for that match, understandably so. Generally matches between these two are tight and low scoring and I expect similar here.
If you think back to Liverpool during this wobbly run they have been on they have struggled to break down a low block. They drew with West Brom, failed to beat Fulham twice, losing the second game, drew 0-0 at Newcastle and lost at home to Burnley. It is something they have really started to struggle with. Even a grossly out of their depth Sheffield United only went down 2-0. If you take out their recent defeat at Man City who are rampant against everyone right now, Wolves have had under 2.5 goals in six of their last eight with huge VAR calls in their favour completely turning performances that were going nowhere in the other two. Liverpool probably just want a win here. Whether they get it or not I don’t expect the score to be run up by either side.
