Big Matches

With the leaders Norwich City not in action until Tuesday, Watford have the chance to close the gap at the top to just three points when they take part in the first of the two TV matches on Monday. They go to Middlesbrough whose tilt for the play-offs may have ended with their defeat to Bournemouth on Good Friday and will definitely end if they lose here. The other TV match is massive for both sides. Sheffield Wednesday now sit seven points adrift of safety with seven matches left so they really need to beat Cardiff City at Hillsborough but the Welsh side are getting into must win territory themselves if they want to make it into the top six.

Best of the Rest

The promotion charge for Swansea City has fizzled right out in recent times but they can keep a glimmer of hope alive if they can see off Preston North End. Barnsley and Reading never really helped each other in their quest to remain in the top six on Friday and they have another chance to hold off the chasing pack. Barnsley head to Luton while Reading host Derby County. Bournemouth will look to continue their charge at those two sides with a trip to Ewood Park to take on a Blackburn side who might already be on the beach. Two of the bottom three meet when Rotherham United host Wycombe Wanderers in a match neither can really afford to lose.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day and we actually have to wait until late on in the day for it as it comes in the second of the TV matches where I think Cardiff City are a little overpriced in their match against Sheffield Wednesday, and as a result we get plenty of draw cover which I always crave in these short turnaround matches. The simple fact of the matter is that Sheffield Wednesday are a poor side despite their competitiveness against Watford at the weekend.

Cardiff are hit and miss at the minute which is no real use to them but they are unbeaten on the road under Mick McCarthy with five wins and three draws. They’ve only conceded four goals in the last seven of those so they are hard to beat. Sheffield Wednesday have offered a couple of good performances on the road either side of the international break but at home they are without a win in four. These two play a similar game but Cardiff do it better so I’m on them here.
