2020-21 Sky Bet Championship – Nottingham Forest vs Swansea City Tips and Betting Preview

We have a Sunday match in the Championship this weekend which I’m sure will delight the two managers involved with another six fixtures to come in this division in the next three weeks after this, as Nottingham Forest host Swansea City at the City Ground.

Forest might be out for a bit of revenge here as it was the Swansea who stole the last play-off spot from them in agonising style last term, a robbery you could argue the hosts still haven’t recovered from. That should add a strong competitive edge to this one.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels with the build up beginning at 11.30am and the game itself kicking off at 12pm.

Nottingham Forest

Ever since lockdown the first time round it has been a wretched period for Nottingham Forest. They barely won a game at the back end of last season and there is no other way of putting it than they bottled getting into the play-offs. A terrible start to this season meant the end for Sabri Lamouchi but when you pick apart the results since then you would struggle to suggest they are a whole lot better under Chris Hughton.

It should be noted that Forest have won three matches under their new boss but two of those were against Wycombe Wanderers and Coventry City and you’d expect them to be winning those games. Failures to beat Rotherham, Derby and Barnsley suggest whatever issues were there are still there. One of those is scoring goals. Chris Hughton teams are not known for scoring loads of goals and they only have eight in the nine matches under him. That has to change if they are going to climb the table.

Swansea City

It hasn’t been the best run in the world for Swansea having only won three of their last eight matches but they have only lost one of those and that was to the leaders Norwich so the Welsh outfit aren’t exactly stinking the place out or anything like that. There has been a shortage of goals in recent matches with Andre Ayew out but he is slowly getting up to full fitness so you would expect that to automatically change in the not too distant future.

If we think back to last season, Swansea were very composed and controlled on their travels and are set up to be very effective away from home under Steve Cooper. The Swans only have a couple of wins on their travels this term, which at Preston and Wycombe isn’t a standout form guide it has to be said, but they have been to Bristol City and Brentford and avoided defeat and with attacking players starting to return they’ll expect to keep picking up points regularly.

Team News

Nottingham Forest are going to check on the fitness of Michael Dawson, Samba Sow and Lewis Grabban for this fixture but the game is likely to come too soon for Joe Worrall and Tyler Blackett to be involved in.

On loan Chelsea defender Marc Guehi missed the draw with Sheffield Wednesday in midweek and he remains a doubt for this fixture. Andre Ayew came off the bench to score against the Owls and will be pushing for a starting berth here.

Betting

I saw Nottingham Forest against Luton a few weeks ago and I thought they were a bang ordinary side and unless they have dramatically improved since then, and there aren’t many signs that they have, then I think they could be there for the taking for a Swansea City team who look a lot more confident away from the Liberty Stadium than they do at it under Steve Cooper. As a result of that I think the visitors are worth siding with here.

You can get a decent price on Swansea on the draw no bet Asian handicap line and that looks like the way to attack this match. I think draw cover is needed here because both teams have a shortage of goals so this shouldn’t be a runaway or comfortable victory for either side but Forest look a little flattered in the odds to me. I don’t see them as much of a side and with that in mind I’m happy to back Swansea to win, if indeed there is a winner.
