Big Matches

The TV action comes from Vicarage Road this week where two of the sides relegated from the Premier League last season battle it out for another three points as Watford host AFC Bournemouth in a match in which the winners will move into the top two for a few hours at least. Both the top two are in action on Saturday and they both have home matches. Leaders Bristol City take on Swansea City while Reading welcome a second newly promoted side to the Madekski Stadium in as many matches when Rotherham United are the visitors.

Best of the Rest

Millwall are the only other members of the top six and they also have a home test when they welcome a Barnsley side who will be looking to impress their new manager who will be watching from the stands. At the other end of the table Sheffield Wednesday will look to more closer to zero points when they host Luton Town while Wycombe Wanderers go on the road in search for their first point at this level. They face a tough test away to Norwich City though. Two sides in decent form meet at the Bet365 Stadium when Stoke host Brentford while Blackburn Rovers head to Coventry City. There is also a Neil Warnock derby as the veteran takes his Middlesbrough side to former club Cardiff City.

Betting

Two bets catch my eye over the course of the day with the first of them coming from St Andrews where I’m expecting to see some goals between Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers. There is no doubt there are a lot of goals in this Blackburn side and they now have the luxury of a decent squad so they can rest and rotate and not significantly weaken the team which is going to be very important over the next couple of weeks. Coventry don’t have that luxury so you would imagine they will target home matches to pick up points so I expect them to display a real intent here. Both these teams like to play and they should combine very well to provide at least three goals if not more.

The other bet I like is for Norwich City to win to nil when they go up against Wycombe Wanderers. This was always going to be a tough season for the Chairboys but it is spells like this where it is going to get really hard because although their squad isn’t as small as a few years ago in terms of quality it is and having to play this relentless schedule with the same players just isn’t possible. They have a couple of home matches coming up and while no team would ever admit to sacking games off it might well be that they target them rather than a trip to Carrow Road where they were likely to come away empty handed whatever happens. Norwich have the luxury of being able to rotate and not losing too much in terms of efficiency and when you consider the only goal Wycombe have scored in six games at this level was when the Millwall keeper thought he was Lionel Messi, there looks to be a strong chance that Norwich both win and keep a clean sheet.
