2020-21 Sky Bet Championship – Sheffield Wednesday vs Norwich Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Championship weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon with a clash which is going to affect both ends of the table as Sheffield Wednesday host Norwich City in a match in which both teams will be eager for the three points.

Sheffield Wednesday find themselves second from bottom going into the day and seven points from safety with two matches in hand, one of which is here. It is a much prettier picture for Norwich who can move 10 points clear at the top with a win with just 10 games remaining.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live in full on the Sky Sports Football channel with the build up to the game beginning at 12 noon and the match kicking off at 12.15pm.

Sheffield Wednesday

When you consider that Sheffield Wednesday began their campaign six points behind everyone else this was always going to be one of struggle but they have never come out of the bottom three and that is probably a surprise. They have changed manager twice already this term and you wouldn’t rule out them panicking again, although the recruiting of Darren Moore seems a sensible one, although whether he has enough time to save them remains to be seen.

On the pitch it has been a run of woe in recent times with them losing their last six matches. It is only that Birmingham are useless that they are still in with a genuine chance of escaping over the last quarter of the season. If that is going to happen then they must start scoring more goals. Nobody in the league have scored less than them and although they aren’t terrible defensively if they don’t score they won’t pick up the amount of wins needed.

Norwich City

It couldn’t be going much better for Norwich City though. They are far too good for the Championship and they will return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, they just need to dot the I’s and cross the T’s. A win here will mean that they need a maximum of 21 more points to secure promotion and it would be a huge surprise if they don’t pick them up well before the season comes to a close.

Nobody in the league have conceded fewer goals than Norwich City and they have scored twice as many as they have conceded which is never a bad combination. Another thing which isn’t a bad combination is the fact that Norwich have won their last seven matches and have only conceded twice in that time. Their attack looks in great form so they will be extremely confident of getting the points in this match.

Team News

Darren Moore has suggested that Moses Odubajo and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru are making good progress but he will not be able to call on their services for this match. Jordan Rhodes will be hoping to start against his former club.

Norwich City will be without goalkeepers Orjan Nyland and Michael McGovern as well as defender Sam Byram but there is a chance that Marco Stiepermann could return having missed the win over Luton Town last week. Todd Cantwell will hope to be fit.

Betting

It is hard to see past a Norwich City win here. Sheffield Wednesday were expected to improve once Darren Moore took over and it might be that they do but Norwich are playing a level above the Championship, as my side found out to our cost last weekend. Losses to Rotherham and Reading since Moore took over suggests that there isn’t going to be an immediate turnaround in their fortunes and I certainly don’t see it coming here.

I was going to look for the value bets for this match but the fact that the -1 Asian line is around evens for Norwich to cover might just be the best bet of the game. As I’ve said it is hard to see Norwich not winning the match and any win will give us a push but most sides are getting beaten by more than a goal by the Canaries at the minute and I’m not convinced that Sheffield Wednesday will stay any closer. Norwich on the Asian lines will do me.
