2020-21 Sky Bet Championship – Sunday 24th January Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The football comes thick and fast at the minute and that continues on Sunday when in among a heavy day of FA Cup action there is also a couple of Championship matches for us to enjoy as four sides look to boost their league position.

Both the matches are live on TV for us to enjoy in the UK so on what looks like being a pretty miserable Sunday from a weather point of view, there is no reason not to sit back and enjoy a couple of competitive Championship encounters.

Where to watch

The matches will be shown live on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels. The programme begins at 12 noon with the matches kicking off at 12.30pm and 3pm.

Preston North End vs Reading (12.30)

The opening match of the day comes from Deepdale where Preston North End will look to continue to creep closer to the play-off places when they host a Reading team who will be wanting to close in on the automatic promotion spots.

Both these sides are likely to be in the promotion shake up in one way or another over the remainder of the season so there is a chance for each to lay a little bit of a marker down. Surprisingly though Preston have struggled at home this season with the bulk of their better results coming away from home. They are also carrying a few key injuries which could be significant. Reading have won three of their last four matches and are generally pretty decent on their travels. They have lost three away matches but two of those losses were at Bournemouth and Brentford which are tough places to go. Deepdale hasn’t been so tough this season so I fancy Reading to continue their impressive season by taking home the points here.

Middlesbrough vs Blackburn Rovers (15.00)

The second match of the Sunday double header comes from up at the Riverside where Middlesbrough will look to go level on points with Bournemouth in sixth when they host a Blackburn Rovers team who have probably underperformed for the first half of the season.

One of the reason for the struggles of the visitors has been a nasty run with injuries in the middle of the campaign but they are starting to work themselves out and Blackburn have lost just one of their last four as a result. They might be up against it here though because Middlesbrough have been very strong at home all season. A surprise loss to Birmingham in their previous home match was just their second this term but they have won seven of the other 10 so the Riverside is a bit of a fortress. It is hard to oppose Boro here but Blackburn are better than their league position suggests and might just be coming to the boil again. I’m happy to leave this one alone.
