2020-21 Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 2nd March Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is another midweek round of matches in this bonkers Championship schedule this week with half of the division on show on what could be a big night of action in the second tier across the course of Tuesday evening.

One of the six matches that are taking place will be screened across a couple of the main channels on Sky while the other five all take place behind the red button. That means that we don’t need to miss any of the action involving our bets.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)

Cardiff City v Derby County

Coventry City v Middlesbrough

Huddersfield Town v Birmingham City

Millwall v Preston North End

Nottingham Forest v Luton Town (7.45pm)

Reading v Blackburn Rovers (8pm – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

Preview

The televised clash is actually the last one to kick off and it sees Reading looking to establish their top six credentials again when they entertain a Blackburn Rovers side who should be doing a whole lot better than they currently are. Cardiff dropped back out of the top six on Saturday but have the chance to move back into those positions when they welcome Derby County to Wales while Middlesbrough, a place just below Cardiff in the table, head to St Andrews to face a Coventry City side who are showing signs of life once again.

The other three matches are largely mid-table battles although the one at the John Smith’s Stadium could yet have an impact on the relegation battle as Huddersfield Town host a Birmingham City side who are finally showing signs of life once again. The other two matches have in form Millwall taking on a potentially underachieving Preston North End outfit while Nathan Jones takes his Luton Town side to the City Ground to meet a Nottingham Forest side undefeated in three games.

Betting

There is only one bet which I like on what looks a more competitive card now it is time to bet on it than it might have done maybe this time last week. That bet I like comes in the form of Cardiff City who entertain Derby County in a match where I think Wayne Rooney and his men will taste defeat in. Cardiff have been in exemplary form under Mick McCarthy. This will be his tenth game in charge and they are yet to taste defeat under the experienced boss.

Derby have improved under Rooney but their only road win in their last three came at Wycombe with a very late winner. They don’t impress nearly as much away from Pride Park as they do at it and that has to be a concern for those who like them here. Cardiff saw a run of six wins in a row ended on Saturday but a draw away to Middlesbrough certainly isn’t a disaster of a result. Those wins include an emphatic 4-0 win over Preston and a good win away to Bournemouth. I think they can notch another three points here.
