Preview

The two televised matches sees the three highest ranked teams on show in action when Bristol City in third host Watford who begin the night in fifth place in the table. Swansea City are the other team in the top five in action on Wednesday evening. They play host to a Sheffield Wednesday side who will be looking to get something going under new manager Tony Pulis and pull away from the relegation zone over the coming games.

There are three other matches on the evening with the two early kick offs of intrigue. Middlesbrough play host to bottom of the table Derby County who appear to have Steve McClaren back involved while Millwall welcome the early pacesetters Reading to The New Den. The other match comes from St Andrews where Coventry City will look to climb the table a little when they entertain Cardiff City.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the evening on Wednesday which comes in one of those early kick offs when Middlesbrough host Derby County in a match which I expect the home side to win. Middlesbrough have only lost two matches this season and they have both been to sides relegated from the Premier League last term in Watford and Norwich. Clearly Derby are not at that level and if they don’t buck their ideas up soon they won’t be at this level either.

Middlesbrough are without a win in three which is a slight concern but they have played Blackburn, Brentford and Norwich in those matches so it is more the schedule rather than the performances that have stopped them winning. They have won three and drawn two of their six home matches this term which is a positive. Derby only have one win all season and that wasn’t really deserved. This is a match Middlesbrough should be winning.
