Preview

The televised match on Wednesday evening will be the midlands battle between two sides lower down in the table than they would like to be when Nottingham Forest host Coventry City at the City Ground. Although it isn’t on TV the other appealing match over the course of the evening comes from the Madejski Stadium where early pacesetters Reading can open up a six point lead at the top of the table if they can get the better of a Preston North End side whose season hasn’t really got going yet.

Two sides just outside the top six meet at Vicarage Road when Watford host Stoke City while at the other end of the table Wycombe Wanderers will be looking to back up their win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday when they travel to Birmingham City. Four other sides in the bottom half of the table compete in the other two matches when Derby County take on QPR while Rotherham United welcome Luton Town to the New York Stadium.

Betting

As with Tuesday evening there isn’t a whole lot that gets me going here so I’m going to go with the one bet which involves my own team Luton Town in their trip to take on Rotherham United. Rotherham have done well so far to keep their head above the water on their return to the second tier but their only two wins to date have come against the current bottom two in the table Wycombe Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday so they need a bigger win before you could feel comfortable about their status at the level.

In fairness you could say similar about Luton. Their four wins this season have come against the bottom three as it stands and a Barnsley side who have only just elevated themselves out of that danger zone but when you tack that on to their fine form in that mini campaign after lockdown last season their picture is painted a little brighter. Luton have been especially good on their travels since Nathan Jones returned with only Watford and Millwall having beaten them away from Kenilworth Road. The odds for this one should be a lot tighter than they are but I’m happy to take my chances on the visitors with the draw cover that is on offer.
