2020-21 UEFA Nations League – Monday 7th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The penultimate day of action in the UEFA Nations League for this international break comes along on Monday and it is a day where the teams who were in action on Friday play their second group match of the competition.

Those who got off to winning starts on Friday will be keen to pick up another win and be in a dominant position early on while the teams who weren’t quite so fortunate in their opener will want to make up for it here.

League A

There are just the two matches on Monday in League A and they both come from Group 1 where the two heavyweight sides meet in the pick of the games as the Netherlands will look for a second successive win in the group when they host an Italy team looking for their first. The other match sees Bosnia-Herzegovina going up against Poland in a clash that even this early in the piece will have the loser struggling to survive at this level.

League B

Four matches take place on a busy night in League B on Monday and two Home Nations sides are in action. It looked like that would only be one with rumours that Scotland were going to see their match against the Czech Republic postponed because of positive Covid-19 tests with the Czechs but they’ve adjusted their squad and that forms one of the Group 2 matches. The other sees Israel hosting Slovakia. Over in Group 1, Northern Ireland will look to build on their late equaliser against Romania on Friday night when they host a Norway side who lost tamely in their opener. Austria, the team who beat Norway, will go up against Romania in the other game.

League C

The final two matches of the day come over in League C where the two Group 4 games form the schedule. We have an early kick off out in Kazakhstan where they will go in search of a second straight win when they meet Belarus in Almaty. The other match in the group comes from Tirana where Albania will be looking for three points when they take on a Lithuania side who continue to flatter to deceive a little.

Betting

Kazakhstan might not have beaten a whole lot in Lithuania on Friday night but any road win in this competition is worthy of note. In truth they don’t play much against Belarus on Monday either. Belarus have already gone down at home to Albania in this group and are already under pressure not just to get the job done here but to win the match else they will fall adrift in the section. Winning on the artificial pitch out in Kazakhstan is never easy though and it certainly isn’t going to be easy against a side with the confidence of winning their opener. I’m a little surprised at the odds on the draw no bet Asian handicap line as I’d have the Kazakhs bigger favourites than that. I’ll happily take them on that line though.

There wasn’t a whole lot that I liked about Northern Ireland on Friday night and although Norway lost their opening match against Austria I do think they are the better of these two teams right now and with no fans inside Windsor Park I expect the Scandinavians to show that. It is a little too simplistic to say that Erling Haaland is the standout player on the pitch but it is the truth so it should be mentioned. Northern Ireland have a style that is hard to play against but their lack of quality is beginning to be exposed defensively and as a result they have only kept one clean sheet in their last six. Given that Northern Ireland don’t score a lot and Norway have goals in them I’ll take the visitors to get a result here.
