2020-21 UEFA Nations League – Sunday 11th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The third match day of the UEFA Nations League began on Saturday evening but the majority of the matches in it take place over the course of a busy Sunday where there are no fewer than 20 matches in the various leagues on what looks a great day of action.

As ever in the Nations League we have the marquee teams opposing each other in League A while the other Leagues will offer up plenty of competitive fayre to get us through another Sunday of the ongoing restrictions.

League A

Fixtures in this league take place in Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 and each group has an early match and a later one. In Group 1 the early kick off sees the Netherlands build on their current tally of points when they make the trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina who will be reeling from losing the Euro 2020 play-off semi on Thursday night. The later game sees the group leaders Italy heading to Gdansk to face Poland. The early match in Group 2 is the pick of the matches as England take on Belgium at Wembley Stadium while the other game in the group sees Iceland looking to build on the positivity of reaching the Euro 2020 play-off final when they host Denmark. In Group 3 the action begins with Croatia hosting Sweden while later in the day the world champions France host the defending champions Portugal in the other eye catching clash.

League B

All four groups are in action in League B on Sunday and the matches start early in the afternoon when the Republic of Ireland host Wales, a side who are looking to extend their lead at the top of the group. Later in the day the two lesser sides meet as Finland host a Bulgaria team who will be smarting from losing their Euro 2020 play-off on Thursday. Norway are another side who will be looking to bounce back from defeat in the week. They host Romania in the first game in Group 1 with the other match in that section seeing Northern Ireland taking on Austria. Scotland sit on top of Group 2 and they’ll be looking to keep that position when they host Slovakia while elsewhere Israel will face the Czech Republic and in Group 3 two sides who are preparing for Euro 2020 play-off finals meet as Serbia host Hungary while leaders Russia take on Turkey in what is probably the pick of the matches in this section.

League C

The remaining matches on Sunday come in League C where three groups are on show. The action begins with the early kick off in Group 4 where leaders Kazakhstan host Albania while in the other match in that group Lithuania host Belarus. North Macedonia are the pacesetters in Group 2 and they head to Tallinn to meet a poor Estonia side with Armenia hosting Georgia in the other match in that section. Finally in Group 3 Greece will be looking to keep hold of top spot when they host Moldova while Slovenia will be looking to take advantage of any slip ups when they make the trip to Kosovo.

Betting

In these bumper cards there is always a tendency to load up the bet slips but I’m happy to play just two bets over the course of the day. The first of those comes at Wembley where even with the prospect of being without Eden Hazard I still have Belgium as a decent bet. There are various reports doing the rounds that Harry Kane isn’t going to be fit for England and even allowing for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in belting form, that isn’t going to help England if their captain doesn’t make it. The big issue for England is how light they look defensively and you don’t want to be rotten at the back against this Belgium side who have an embarrassment of riches at the top end of the park. Belgium have assumed the early dominance in the group and if there is a Wembley winner I expect it to be them.

The other bet I like comes later in the evening when Russia host a Turkey side who will be without their injured talisman Cenk Tosun which can’t be a help to them. To be fair to Turkey they picked up a creditable 3-3 draw with Germany in a friendly in midweek but just how much we can take from that I’m not entirely sure. Russia have started the campaign strongly and are one of those sides probably not good enough for the top tier of this competition but should be too good for the second section and I expect that to ring true over in Moscow. Russia have already seen off Serbia and Hungary in this group and only Belgium touched them in Euro 2020 qualifying. They are in a good groove at the minute and can see off Turkey here.
