2020-21 UEFA Nations League – Wednesday 14th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We have a bumper night of action in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday to conclude the current international break when no fewer than 40 teams are in action in match day four of the increasingly popular and important competition.

We have all four Hone Nations in action on Wednesday evening and the Republic of Ireland as well as a number of other European heavyweights on what should be a really entertaining and dramatic night of football.

League A

We have action in three groups in the marquee tier of the competition with the top two in Group 1 facing off against each other when Italy host the Netherlands. That means there is a big game between the bottom two in that section as Poland host Bosnia and Herzegovina in a match where the losers will be left at the bottom of the table and having plenty of work to do in order to avoid relegation in the next international break. In Group 2 England have the chance to assume control of the section when they host Denmark at Wembley Stadium while in the other match Iceland host Belgium with the home side needing a win to ease their relegation concerns. The highlights of the night come from Group 3 where we have a rerun of the World Cup final as Croatia host France in the match of the night while the defending champions Portugal host a Sweden team who are without a point from their opening three matches.

League B

All four groups are in action in Group B on Wednesday night and the action begins in Group 4 where there is an early kick off as second placed Finland host third placed Ireland. The other match in the group then sees the leaders Wales making their way to Sofia to take on a struggling Bulgaria team. In Group 1 leaders Austria make the trip to Romania while Norway will be looking to keep up the heat on them when they host Northern Ireland. In Group 2 the top two meet at Hampden Park as Scotland will be looking to continue their fine international break so far when they host the Czech Republic while Slovakia host Israel in a contest where the losers are likely to be staring relegation in the face. The top two also meet in Group 3 where Russia can all but sew up the section if they overcome Hungary while Turkey and Serbia will battle in a feisty clash in Istanbul to avoid ending the night at the bottom of the table.

League C

There are three groups playing their fourth set of matches in the third tier on Wednesday evening and that begins with an early kick off in Group where Lithuania host Albania while later in the night the leaders Kazakhstan head to a Belarus team who have suddenly found some form. All four sides begin the night on four points so those games are pretty big. Greece and Slovenia head the way in Group 3 and the former have the chance of another three points when they host Kosovo while the latter travel to Moldova. Things are quite tightly bunched in Group 2 where North Macedonia host Georgia and Armenia head to Estonia.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets to finish off the international break with the first of those coming in the form of a Norway side who continue to entertain and more importantly who continue to look good at this level. Norway have scored nine goals in their last two matches in this group and they are very much pushing for promotion to the top tier and will be aiming to keep up the heat on Austria here. Northern Ireland have qualified for the final of the Euro 2020 play-off and that is likely to form much of their attention but they continue to struggle in this group. I think the pace, movement and the quality of the attacking unit of this classy Norway side will get the job done here.

Scotland are ahead in their group and while they haven’t been completely convincing I do think once again circumstances have fallen in their favour as for the second time in as many months they take on a Czech Republic side that have been depleted by Covid-19 issues. Scotland won 2-1 in the Czech Republic in similar circumstances last month and with them buoyed by qualifying for the Euro 2020 play-off final and seeing off Slovakia in this competition in the last week they should have enough of a spring in their step to take advantage here too. The Czechs aren’t as inconvenienced here as they were last month but none of this is ideal for them. Scotland look better placed and can end a good week in style.
