2020 German Masters Snooker Qualifying – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The final day of snooker for 2019 takes place on Sunday and it does so when the last round of the German Masters qualifying competition is played out up in Barnsley, with spots at the Tempodrom in the New Year on the line for those involved.

A number of big names made it through the opening round so we are set for a decent schedule over the three sessions as the field are whittled down to 32 to board the plane to Berlin for the second leg of the BetVictor Series next month.

Morning Session

The quality comes along early in this session with former world champions everywhere you look. Two of them will be on the streamed tables with Mark Williams in action on one of them. He takes on the veteran Mark King in what should be a good match while on the other live offering the Scottish Open champion Mark Selby will be in action. He faces the unheralded Jamie Clarke for his seat on the plane to Berlin.

Such is the quality on show in this session we have Neil Robertson on the outside tables when he faces up to the challenge of Igor Figueiredo while elsewhere Gary Wilson plays Xu Si, Harvey Chandler takes on Scott Donaldson, Jimmy Robertson meets Elliot Slessor, Alexander Ursenbacher goes up against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Mitchell Mann plays Michael White, Ian Burns faces Zhang Anda, Stephen Maguire has a tricky test against Tian Pengfei and Nigel Bond meets Jordan Brown.

Afternoon Session

There is quality absolutely all over the arena in this session of play, not least on the two main tables where there are a couple of interesting battles taking place John Higgins is in action on one of them when he faces Li Hang in what could be a tough assignment if he allows it to be. The other streamed table will be showing the match between the Northern Irish pair of Mark Allen and Gerard Greene, who do battle for a spot in Berlin.

Such is the quality in this session that the defending champion Kyren Wilson can only make it onto the outside tables. He meets Zhao Xintong in what is a stiff test to his title defence. Shaun Murphy is also on an outside table in this session when he goes up against Dominic Dale and if that wasn’t enough the current UK champion faces a former winner of that tournament when Ding Junhui takes on Matthew Stevens in a juicy looking clash. Anthony McGill faces off against Liang Wenbo elsewhere, while Tom Ford plays Oliver Lines, Mark Davis meets Robbie Williams and Stuart Bingham plays Robert Milkins. In the other two matches Zhou Yuelong faces Yuan Sijun and Graeme Dott goes up against Ashley Carty.

Evening Session

The world champion Judd Trump takes centre stage in the evening session when he takes to one of the two live tables to take on a Stuart Carrington who can be dangerous when the occasion merits it. Two young guns collide on the other streamed table though in what could be one of the matches of the whole day as Luca Brecel goes up against Yan Bingtao in a game that plenty either in the venue or online could be watching.

Ali Carter is once again reduced to the outside tables for his final qualifying match. He meets Jak Jones while Kishan Hirani takes on Andrew Higginson who is looking to continue his decent form. The Indian Open champion Matt Selt meets Bai Langning on another table with the former champion Martin Gould going up against Michael Georgiou. David Grace and Ross Bulman have a great opportunity to make the final stages when they meet each other while another former champion of this event is in action when Anthony Hamilton takes on Sunny Akani. Joe Perry has the chance to keep his form going ahead of The Masters when he meets Barry Pinches and Kacper Filipiak takes on Noppon Saengkham in the other match on the day.

Betting

I’ll finish off a decent week of snooker betting with just the one bet which sees the former champion Anthony Hamilton taken to see off Sunny Akani in the evening session. The fact that he won his only title in Berlin will act as all the inspiration that Hamilton needs to give this one his all and ensure he comes out on top in it.

Sunny Akani has a reputation has being dangerous but the truth is he hasn’t beaten anyone of note all season and in the 18 matches he has played this term, he has only made 10 breaks of 70 or more so Hamilton is going to get plenty of chances to score here, and it is score that he does best. In just two matches more Hamilton has 21 breaks of 70 or more including nine centuries. I think that all converts into a victory for the Sherriff in this one.

Tips

Back A.Hamilton to beat S.Akani for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
