We reach the halfway mark in the second week of the A Night at the Darts event brought to us by the Modus Darts team on Wednesday evening, as once again five men battle it out in their homes to keep us entertained.
If the first two days of this week are anything to go by we should be in for quite some evening of darts too as the standard so far in the two evening sessions we have seen have been of the highest quality it must be said.
The Format
Each night from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Tuesday Recap
For the second time this week the outsider of the five came in and won the group as Martin Adams delivered a clean sweep of victories to claim the daily crown. He came through a deciding leg cracker against David Evans in the penultimate match of the night to seal glory. Evans picked up three wins but it was a night to forget for Scott Mitchell who went winless to start his week. Boris Koltsov followed up Monday’s success with two more wins while Jason Askew managed one win in four to set up a very condensed overall table.
The night couldn’t have gone much better for us from a betting point of view with Martin Adams delivering the goods for us at a price we knew was too big from the outset. He beat Scott Mitchell with a 95 average for our first win of the night and then the four 180s we needed in the next match between Boris Koltsov and Jason Askew were landed before the end of the fourth leg to recover the losses from Monday and stick us healthily in profit for the week.
Wednesday Line Up
It will be the turn of the high scoring Jason Askew to sit out on Wednesday. One high scorer is replaced by another though as the exciting Dutch player Wessel Nijman returns after his day off on Tuesday. He is in need of wins as the three men who are all on 10 points overall are all in action on Wednesday evening. They are Martin Adams, Boris Koltsov and David Evans, while Scott Mitchell will be out to deliver a significantly better session of darts than he put together on Tuesday.

Outright Betting
The first two nights this week have shown us that literally anyone can come out with the spoils so getting involved in the group is not an easy thing. The good thing if you do so is that you are likely to get a run at a decent price on the outsiders, but picking which one to back is easier said than done with the way everyone is playing currently. There is a strong case for swerving the two favourites Wessel Nijman and David Evans though.
Of the other three, we saw Boris Koltsov couldn’t quite hit the heights of Monday again and I wonder if he peaked in that performance. Scott Mitchell came very good after a poor opening day last week and could easily do likewise again while Martin Adams has the winning groove and it is hard to see him fading away now. Good luck if you pick a winner of the group but it isn’t for me although Adams would be my tentative pick at the prices if I was getting involved.
Match Betting
After a decent night on Tuesday, I’m not going mad here on Wednesday because I’m expecting a lot of competitive matches and the favourites aren’t as strong as I’d like them to be, although equally taking them on could look a little folly come the end of the night. I’m suitably up for the week though so I’ll just take one bet which I like here to hopefully top up that record a little ahead of better opportunities presenting themselves.
The bet comes in the third match of the night between Boris Koltsov and Wessel Nijman and it is the 180s that I like here. Once again the line is set at 3.5 but when you consider when they met on Monday night, Nijman himself hit five maximums, that line looks very low. We’ve seen for the last 2.5 weeks that Nijman is a very heavy scorer but Koltsov can mix it in the scoring department. Indeed he hit two in their first meeting on Monday. Two each will do here but both are more than capable of covering this line on their own so I’m happy to take the over in this one.
