The first pool of players conclude their week in the Icons of Darts competition on Friday as the event brought to us by the team at Modus Darts heads towards another weekend of lockdown. As ever six players will battle it out for our enjoyment and some competitive practice.
The players on show on Friday have seen plenty of action so far this week so in theory we should get the most competitive group so far. One thing we are almost certain to get with the players involved in an extremely high quality.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday six players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the six players will play each other once over the best of nine legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Thursday Recap
We saw another surprise winner of the group on Thursday when Mike Warburton rode some outrageous passages of play to win four of his five matches to seal top spot. He came out on top from Keane Barry and Mark Webster who won three of their five matches. There were a couple of wins each for Stephen Burton and Scott Mitchell while Paul Nicholson ended up disappointed with just one win to his name.
It was a rotten day for us betting wise on Thursday which an amazing turn of events transpiring against us. For most of the day it looked like Keane Barry was going to justify our faith in him and win the group only to be pinned at the last. One of the reasons why he was overtaken was because Stephen Burton somehow managed to lose to Mike Warburton from 4-0 up which just took the biscuit given our luck in recent weeks. Warburton then sealed the group with a win over Nicholson to round off a pretty terrible day for us.
Friday Line Up
It isn’t quite the same pool of players that we have seen so far this week in action on Friday. This pool has seen David Evans in it but he is done for the week. In terms of achievements and everything it is Martin Adams who is due to headline this field assuming that his internet issues of earlier in the week have been resolved. It was Ritchie Edhouse who won the group on Wednesday in Wolfie’s absence and he’ll be looking to end his week with successive victories.
Keane Barry is the man who stepped in replace David Evans and after knocking on the door on Thursday he’ll be looking to get the better of these players on Friday. Andy Jenkins won the opening group this week and he shouldn’t be ruled out of winning here. Jarred Cole has been improving in recent times and he is slated for another go on Friday. The other player in the field looking to take the group title is Fallon Sherrock.

Outright Betting
There isn’t a whole lot I like in the prices for the group on Friday and given that there is still the potential for it to turn into a farce if the internet issues with Adams continues, I’m not really in any rush to go hard on anyone. My gut feeling is that the 12/1 on Jarred Cole is a little on the big side but the company he is keeping here might just be a little hot for him over the course of the afternoon, so I’ll pass him by tentatively.
Of the favourites Ritchie Edhouse merits respect at 5/2 after he won on Wednesday. Adams is the favourite to win the group but with his internet issues and his form just beginning to drop off he’s probably a little short. Keane Barry could be competitive here while Andy Jenkins is sure to put up another big showing but again this company is strong. If we were playing with the house money for the week I might have chanced Cole but I’ll save my money for other endeavours.
Match Betting
After the disaster of Thursday I’m going to go with just the one bet on Friday, a bet which has served me well so far this week and I see no reason why that isn’t going to continue here. That comes in the match between Jarred Cole and Fallon Sherrock where I think Cole can come out on top for the third time this week. Cole has already beaten Sherrock 5-1 on Monday and 5-3 on Wednesday when we was on him, and yet amazingly his price has risen!
Cole wasn’t playing well in the early stages on Wednesday but he showed why I backed him once he found his scoring as he pulled away nicely. You would think if he hits his straps from the outset he will win as comfortably as he did on Monday because he is finishing very nicely indeed at the minute. Sherrock shouldn’t be written off but we haven’t seen her best form much for a while and if we don’t see it here Cole has plenty going for him. With his price bigger than it was on Wednesday I can’t resist a bet on the youngster here.
