The second week of the Modus Icons of Darts competition reaches its halfway stage on Wednesday as five men once again battle it out in their homes for our entertainment. With the PDC taking home darts up a notch at the end of this week there should be no lack of attention on this group.
It is fair to say that daytime standard is a level or two down from the evening one but the matches come with plenty of competitive edge about them which is no bad thing. I’m expecting much more of the same here.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Tuesday Recap
It was one of the most competitive groups yet on Tuesday and for us it was one of the most annoying too. Andy Jenkins won his opening three matches and the only way we wasn’t going to get profit on the afternoon was if Paul Nicholson beat Rob Collins 5-4 in the penultimate game of the session. That outcome wouldn’t have covered the handicap we took and would have elevated Nicholson above Jenkins on leg difference. You know the rest.
Elsewhere it was a tough first day at the office for Jarred Cole while Arron Monk delivered some brilliant darts but not quite the same amount of results. Rob Collins was better than his one win for the afternoon suggested too. Ultimately it was Nicholson who won the group on leg difference from Jenkins.
Wednesday Line Up
The reward for winning the group for Paul Nicholson is the day off on Wednesday with the Monday champion Jason Askew coming back in for him. Askew has a great chance of going clear at the top of the overall table after Arron Monk’s struggles on Tuesday. Monk is in action on Wednesday looking for some wins of his own.
The other three men on show are the man who probably should have come out on top on Tuesday in Andy Jenkins and the two stragglers from the day Robert Collins and Jarred Cole, both of whom got much better as the day went on and will be looking to take that into Wednesday and come away with the spoils.

Outright Betting
The two success stories of Monday’s action form the head of the market with Jason Askew and Arron Monk around the 2/1 or slightly bigger mark but they are playing in this rather than owning a Tour card because they lack consistency and I’m not convinced I want to be on either, especially Askew who has had a day off. Monk is probably the likely winner in truth but despite six averages of 95+ this week he’s only won five matches.
Jenkins was heavily flattered by his results on Tuesday. In truth he shouldn’t have been anywhere near winning the group so I’m happy to take him on while Cole needs a real improvement in his scoring. That leaves Rob Collins who was my hunch to win the group. I wasn’t going to take him because he has only won one match each day but he looks to be getting better as the week goes on. I then saw the 6/1 on show and have to chance him.
Match Betting
I’m going to side with Robert Collins in his opening match of the day as well. He takes on Andy Jenkins who he has lost to twice but wasn’t beaten by much on either occasion and actually he should have beaten Jenkins on Monday when he went down 5-4 but missed a stupid amount of doubles in one of the legs Jenkins ended up winning. He wasn’t a million miles away in a 5-3 loss on Tuesday either.
I think the level that Jenkins is playing at is the level he’s got. I don’t see much improvement in him whereas Collins only needs to improve a touch at the end of the leg and pin some doubles a little more regularly and he could be a right threat. I get why Jenkins is a favourite and have nothing against that but Collins is overpriced at 11/8. I fancy him to win this if he can show a little more of a clinical edge on his doubling.
