The Icons of Darts continues on Wednesday where we have the first pool of players back on our streams for what will be their third day of action over the split two weeks, as they keep up their competitive practice for our entertainment.
We’ve seen a couple of very good groups out of these players so far over the last couple of weeks, with two men dominating the scene to date. Based on what we’ve seen so far there is no reason to believe that is going to change here.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday six players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the six players will play each other once over the best of nine legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Tuesday Recap
Mark Webster was the man who came out on top on Tuesday. He didn’t just win the group, he absolutely dominated it with five wins from his five matches, the closest of which was a couple of 5-3 wins. He finished four points ahead of Andy Jenkins who was in second and Stephen Burton who was in third. The two powerhouses came fourth and fifth when Ritchie Edhouse and David Evans recorded two victories each. It was a day to forget for John Brown who lost all five matches.
It was an up and down day for us from a betting point of view but thankfully it was another profitable one. Our outright bet on Andy Jenkins hit the crossbar as he was the best of the rest but nobody had an answer for the play of Mark Webster. We got the small loss on that back and a couple of points of profit with our bet on the 180s between Ritchie Edhouse and David Evans. We needed more than 3.5 180s and Evans himself hit six. Edhouse also hit one so that bet was never in danger.
Wednesday Line Up
We are back to the players who were in action on Monday which means that we are likely to get another exciting head to head battle between Jarred Cole and Scott Marsh. Marsh won the group last Monday with five wins out of five, while four decent wins for Cole on Monday was good enough to top that group. There are four other players in the group but the odds highlight their chances of winning are slim.
Those four players are the Brazilian star Diogo Portela, a man who lost all five matches on Monday so might have a point to prove, Dave Parletti, who actually picked up four wins himself on Monday but didn’t have enough of a leg difference to land the daily title. Adam Huckvale showed in the final match of the day on Monday that he has the quality to be competitive here. He now needs to add consistency to his play. Keelan Kay is the other man on show throughout the day.

Outright Betting
I’ve been keen on Jarred Cole throughout this pool and even at 7/4 I see no real reason to desert him now. He is only a loss to Scott Marsh when Marsh averaged more than a ton away from two wins from the two groups so far. The slight concern is that Cole lost to Dave Parletti on Monday, and it might not be completely ideal that Marsh has the early shift, but to balance out the Parletti loss for Cole, Marsh should have lost to Adam Huckvale on Monday.
It all comes down to the fact that I think Cole is the better player of the two and assuming he beats Marsh, there isn’t a lot that is going to stop him from winning the group. Cole is 10/11 to beat Marsh and 7/4 to win the group so the better bet is to take the value call on the 7/4 on Cole to come out on top in the group for the second day in succession. In a two horse race he is the most likely winner in my eyes.
Match Betting
I’ll go with Scott Marsh for a match bet on Wednesday and it comes in his match against Diogo Portela, his penultimate match of the afternoon. Marsh is going to need to win this match to have a chance of winning the group and I think he can cover a 1.5 leg handicap. Marsh won 5-1 on Wednesday and I still think he has a fair bit in hand even though he only won 5-4 when the two met last week.
The worrying thing for Portela is in his 5-1 loss to Marsh on Monday, he averaged more than a ton and still got wiped out and I’m just not convinced the Brazilian has that sort of form in him very often. I think it is going to take some missed doubles from Marsh for Portela to get close but even then the man from Brazil is going to have to score very well. Marsh has shown he is really on his game in the last couple of groups and I expect him to win this no worse than 5-3.
