The Icons of Darts competition continues on Wednesday when the pool of players who were in action on Monday return to their home oches to battle it out for another daily title, all with the aim of keeping our sporting minds entertained.
One man shone like a beacon on Monday and continues to do so but there are one or two who have the ability to make things a little more interesting on Wednesday, so it is all set up to be an intriguing day of darts.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday six players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the six players will play each other once over the best of nine legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Tuesday Recap
The favourite obliged for the second time this week on Tuesday when Scott Mitchell followed in the footsteps of fellow Lakeside champion Martin Adams to come out on top in Group 2. Not only did Mitchell win the group but he did so with maximum points after winning all five of his matches. His closest challengers were Mark Webster and Paul Nicholson, who both secured three wins each while there were a pair of wins for Andy Jenkins and Stephen Burton but it was not the baptism into the live leagues that John Brown wanted as he failed to win a single match and could only win four legs all day.
It was yet another day of what could have been for us from a betting point of view. The day got off to a good start when Andy Jenkins looked like justifying our faith in him to win the group when he won his opening two matches in fine fashion but he couldn’t build on that and ended up down the field. It got worse when for the third time in three days we had someone miss six darts from two dart range as Stephen Burton failed to convert six match darts in the deciding leg against Mark Webster. Thankfully some solace was found via Paul Nicholson beating Mark Webster to recover some of the losses on the day.
Wednesday Line Up
Martin Adams has been playing some outstanding darts in recent times and he goes in search of an amazing fifth straight group win on Wednesday. This might be the hardest one of the lot to win though because he has a serious challenger up against him. That comes in the form of David Evans, who after a week off will be looking to remind us that he is the main man. Boris Koltsov delivered a much better performance on Monday and will want a group title himself on Wednesday.
Fallon Sherrock hasn’t shown her best form over the course of the competition since it got raised to the best of nine legs but she gets another chance here. She will be joined by Scott Marsh, who will be hoping to put a bang ordinary display on Monday behind him. The other member of the six player pool is Dave Parletti, who will also be looking to deliver a stronger performance now that he has settled into the event.

Outright Betting
I’m not a massive fan of anything in this group on Wednesday. I’m tempted to take David Evans as he isn’t the favourite but I’m not sure I really want to be taking Martin Adams on and it isn’t like Evans is an outrageous price to top the pile at 9/4. There is a little juice to that in normal circumstances and if it was only Adams and Evans in the running then I’d be a little more willing to get stuck in. It isn’t though.
We have to respect Boris Koltsov. Anyone who can hit 14 180s in a day merits respect, especially as it is surely only a matter of time before his doubles start working again. He’s a threat but he isn’t much of a price either. I’m not one for betting on what should essentially be a battle royal between three men unless one is insanely priced. That isn’t the case so I’ll keep my powder dry for a punt on the match betting.
Match Betting
There isn’t a huge amount that I like on the match betting front either in truth but I will take one as we go along on Wednesday. That comes quite early in the day as Boris Koltsov takes on Dave Parletti. I chanced Parletti in this fixture on Monday and came up dry but there were two reasons why I’m happy to go the other way. The first one is Koltsov’s insane scoring power. To be fair Parletti scored well on Monday but the Russian blew him out of the water.
The other reason is the terrible doubling of the BDO ace. He hit just 13/43 attempts at a double on Monday and that was 2/12 against Koltsov. Koltsov blazed a trail of 180s but it wasn’t like he finished great in that match. He was 5/23 but his finishing did get visibly better as the day went on. The same can’t be said for Parletti. I don’t see Parletti keeping up with Koltsov in the scoring department so unless he dramatically brushes up on his finishing I don’t really see where the Englishman gets any joy here. You can only get 8/11 on Koltsov to cover a 1.5 leg handicap but it looks a pretty safe bet.
