The third week of the Icons of Darts event enters day three on Wednesday with one of the closest overall tables beginning to take shape. Another competitive day of darts is in store with valuable points up for grabs.
We have had two competitive days this week and with the overall leader not in action on Wednesday, there is a lot for the five men who are battling it out from their homes to play for over the course of the day.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Tuesday Recap
On a day where everyone recorded a win once again, it was Andy Jenkins who came out on top over the course of Tuesday with three wins from his four matches and some extremely good darts along the way. Paul Nicholson maintained his advantage at the head of proceedings with two wins on Tuesday while Arron Monk started out his week with a couple of victories. There were two more wins for Diogo Portela and James Hubbard registered a solitary chalk on the board.
It was a much better day for us betting wise with Arron Monk ensuring one of his two wins came against Diogo Portela and not only did he beat the Brazilian but his 5-2 win was enough to land the handicap and get some of those unlucky losses from Monday back. We’ll be looking to build on that over the course of the remainder of the week.
Wednesday Line Up
It is turn for the leader Paul Nicholson to have the day off on Wednesday, which is sure to amp up the competitiveness of the afternoon. Adam Huckvale returns from his day off and he’ll be looking for a much better day than he had on Monday. He’ll join Tuesday winner Andy Jenkins, Arron Monk and the two men who are competing in their first week of this thing in Diogo Portela and James Hubbard in what looks like a good group.

Outright Betting
It could be that this group is decided as early as the second match of the day when the two favourites Arron Monk and Andy Jenkins meet. You would fancy the winner of that would have every chance to go 4-0 for the day so that feels like a big match but I’m not sure I can call the winner of it in fairness. Monk won their first three meetings but Jenkins has won their latest two so there isn’t a lot in it.
If you wanted to make a case for the other three it is quite hard on what we’ve seen so far. My gut feel is that Adam Huckvale and James Hubbard are better than what they have shown so far but we are into the territory where they need to show us a little more before we can really get involved in them to win at least three matches which is what is needed to land the crown. I’ll sit the group market out.
Match Betting
There isn’t a whole lot I like in the match betting on Wednesday I have to admit. That match between Monk and Jenkins could shape the whole group so predicting how things are going to play out isn’t easy, and with Paul Nicholson out of the way we haven’t got that many 50:50 looking matches either which makes it even more difficult than it already was. There is one I’m happy to take at the prices though.
I’ve mentioned for the last week or so about this weird trend that Andy Jenkins seems to play his worst game in his last game and if he has lost to Arron Monk earlier in the day he might be playing for nothing when he takes on Adam Huckvale in the final match for both men. As it turned out when these two played last on Monday, Jenkins played well and averaged a ton in a 5-4 win but that is very much the anomaly to his record. Even when he won the group on Tuesday Jenkins lost his last match with an 82.6 average. After Huckvale missed 10 darts at double to bring a bet in for me on Monday I’m not backing him to win here but the even money on him getting to four is more than attractive enough.
