We reach the halfway mark of another week in the Icons of Darts event on Wednesday as five men continue to battle it out in their own homes for our entertainment and to pass some more hours of lockdown smoother.
The standard in this event went up significantly on Tuesday and much more of the same will be hoped for on Wednesday as we move away from the shambles that was provided on Monday. It looks a competitive day on Wednesday.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and for free on Dartslive.tv.

Tuesday Recap
The rumours were correct and Arron Monk did indeed replace Anastasia Dobromyslova and he took full advantage of his recall by winning the group at the first time of asking. For the second time this week the table was decided on leg difference, with Monk and Ritchie Edhouse finishing level with three wins, but Monk had a far superior leg difference. Jarred Cole followed up his good start to the week when he picked up a pair of wins while Keelan Kay and Jose Justicia managed solitary successes each.
It was a second successful day for us betting wise as our one bet came in comfortably enough. It wasn’t the best day of the two for Jarred Cole but one of his two wins came in the form of a 5-1 success against Jose Justicia which gives us a further few points of profit to add to what was a very profitable day on Monday. We’ll look to continue to build on that for the remainder of the week.
Wednesday Line Up
Arron Monk has been and gone as far as Wednesday is concerned as it is he who has a day off from the event. He is replaced by Justin Smith who had his missing day on Tuesday and will be looking to forge clear of the rest now that he is back in action. He will go up against Ritchie Edhouse for the first time this week, while Jarred Cole, Keelan Kay and Jose Justicia, the other three men taking part on Wednesday, all took him on in the opening day on Monday.

Outright Betting
Given how competitive this group looks between the three main protagonists on Wednesday I wasn’t going to have a bet but I had a quick look at the prices regardless of that and I am priced in on the outsider of the three. The three men I’m talking about are Ritchie Edhouse, Jarred Cole and Justin Smith and it is the middle man of that trio that I’ll have a punt on at 5/1 as that is just too big based on what we’ve seen this week.
Cole has only lost three matches this week and they have been against Keelan Kay, who seems to have some sort of hold over him because Kay has barely won a game against anyone else in the group, and Arron Monk who isn’t on show on Wednesday. Cole does have wins over Ritchie Edhouse and Justin Smith which could be significant. His scoring on Tuesday was something else and he put in three averages over 90. The one he didn’t was against Kay where he averaged 87.25 but was a ridiculous 1/11 on the doubles. Any sort of proper double percentage and he would have been over the 90 average there and maybe won that match too. This has a feel of everyone beating everyone about it on Wednesday but if Cole can sort out his issues against Kay he could land top spot honours at a 5/1 which is clearly too big.
Match Betting
I’ll have a couple of match bets on Wednesday with the first of them on Jarred Cole to overturn his losing streak against Keelan Kay. Cole has largely lost to him because he hasn’t been able to hit a double against him in the first two days. He is a cumulative 3/20 in their two meetings, a run I find it hard to believe will continue, whereas Kay has 10/13, again a run I’m not sure will continue when you consider in his other matches Kay is checking out at 21 out of 82 darts at a double – 25.6%. Cole scored like a dream throughout Tuesday, I don’t see that changing so if he can pin some doubles he should take this and 4/5 on him doing so will do me.
The other bet I like is for Ritchie Edhouse to do a bit of a job on Jose Justicia halfway through the afternoon. Justicia has played eight matches thus far and he is yet to average above 85 in any of them and that standard isn’t likely to cause Edhouse too many sleepless nights. Edhouse walloped Justicia on Tuesday 5-1 despite only hitting 5/12 on the doubles. He could improve on that but he still hit a 90.93 average and anything around that area should be more than enough to come through this no worse than 5-3. Based on what we’ve seen so far Edhouse would have to miss a lot of doubles not to cover this line but he looks to have sorted out his issues on them and can win this 5-3 or better.
