The second phase of the Icons of Darts competition continues on Wednesday and we move back to the seven players who featured from their own homes on Monday for our entertainment as the lockdown period continues.
They will have a lot to live up to as well because the action on Tuesday was of a very high standard. However Monday was a decent day of action as well and hopes are high that those on show can reproduce it for Wednesday.
The Format
Each day from Monday to Saturday seven players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the seven players will play each other once over the best of seven legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Tuesday Recap
We were treated to a really tight group at the top of proceedings on Tuesday and at the end of it Arron Monk was the man to come out on top courtesy of a better leg difference over Jason Askew and Andy Jenkins. All three men ended with five wins apiece but Monk was two legs better than the rest to seal top spot. There were three wins on the afternoon for an out of sorts Wessel Nijman while Mark Webster, Scott Mitchell and Mike Warburton all came away from the day with solitary successes.
It was a good betting day for us on Tuesday but it could have been so much better because needing to win 4-0 in his final match over Scott Mitchell to win the group, Jason Askew had got both the breaks of throw he needed and only had to hold through to seal a 4-0 success, but his scoring left him and he ended up winning 4-2. That was still enough to bring our match bet in though which was our second winner of the day after Andy Jenkins had also seen off Mitchell. Unfortunately our final bet of the day never came in either as Warburton was shockingly bad to get thumped by Mark Webster.
Wednesday Line Up
We know the identity of the seven players on show for Wednesday but for those who were not following the event on Monday, we have the winner Jarred Cole back on show as well as the man he edged out on leg difference in Ritchie Edhouse. David Evans was the favourite on Monday but could only finish third in the group so he will be looking for better fortunes over the course of play on Wednesday.
Fallon Sherrock failed to hit the heights she showed last week on Monday and she is another who will be out for better over the course of Wednesday, as are Paul Nicholson and Jose Justicia. Martin Adams will be looking to build on a couple of late wins on Monday to be more competitive over the course of the second day of action for this pool of players.

Outright Betting
At 6/1 I’m still not convinced that Jarred Cole is getting the credit he deserves. While it is hard to believe that David Evans will be as sloppy as he was on Monday, there is still no guarantees he comes through to win the group with three or four players capable of beating him. Cole won the group on Monday and probably still has a little bit more to come on top of that as well which is very encouraging for those of us taking him here.
Cole averaged over 90 in every match he played on Monday and a repeat of that could well be enough to land the honours again here. You have to respect Ritchie Edhouse given that he won his first five matches on Monday but the fact he failed when the pressure was on in his last match tells me plenty about relying on him. I expect more from martin Adams, Fallon Sherrock and Paul Nicholson here but the 6/1 on Cole is still too big.
Match Betting
As with Monday I’ll take three in the match betting and two of them involve Jarred Cole so I really am loading up the basket where he is concerned. Before then though it is Martin Adams I am backing to come through in the opening match against Paul Nicholson. I mentioned on Monday how it all looks like a real grind for Nicholson at the minute and that didn’t change on the opening day of this week. His solitary win came against Fallon Sherrock who didn’t really show up in that match. Nicholson then lost to Adams in his final match 4-2 and I see something similar happening here. I saw nothing on Monday that suggests to me Nicholson should be favourite in this match so I’ll take the even money on Wolfie to come out on top here.
We then get to Jarred Cole who also saw off Nicholson with little fuss on Monday and who is an attractive enough price to him again on Wednesday. I’ve already said why I think Cole will go well on Wednesday and the confidence both Monday and last week will have given him can’t be stated. I get the impression this is a really tough gig when things are not going as smoothly as you would like. That is the case for Nicholson but it certainly isn’t for Cole. He beat ‘The Asset’ 4-1 on Monday and I don’t think Nicholson has enough to get revenge here unless Cole suddenly goes walkabouts on the doubles.
I also highlighted on Monday how dominant Jarred Cole has been over Jose Justicia in the last week or so and he continued that on Monday with another comfortable 4-1 win. The simple dynamics are that Cole is a much heavier scorer than his Spanish opponent and that is showing in their results. They now read 5-1, 5-1, 5-2, 5-0 and 4-1. There was almost nine points between the two men in the averages on Monday as well. I fully expect another comfortable win for Cole, again unless he misses a whole raft of doubles, which just doesn’t appear likely right now.
