2020 Modus Icons of Darts – Wednesday 8th April Group 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The Modus Icons of Darts event moves into its third day on Wednesday and with the overall table beginning to take shape, and not in the way many expected it to, we are in for another fascinating afternoon of arrers in the five households.

More and more details of how this tournament is going to work are beginning to surface so the five players on show on Wednesday will all be eager to pick up as many wins as they can to boost their chances of overall success.

The Format

Each day from Monday to Saturday five men will battle it out in a round robin group with the overall champion being determined on Saturday May 2. Matches will see the players compete over the best of 9 legs with each of them at home in front of a webcam throwing at their own individual dartboards. Scores can be found on Dart Connect and the tournament will be streamed on the bookmaker live streaming consoles and hopefully one of Modus’ social media sites.

Tuesday Recap

It was another excellent day for the Dutch youngster Wessel Nijman, who for the second day in a row won all four of his matches to power clear at the top of the overall table, mopping up the Group 2 title along the way. On the flip side of that it was another terrible day for Raymond van Barneveld who once again went winless. David Evans picked up three wins from four while Andy Jenkins was relatively competitive too.

The one match he wasn’t so competitive in was his encounter with Wessel Nijman which the Dutchman won 5-2 to bring in our match bet for the second day in succession to ensure another ounce of profit for the day after Paul Nicholson failed to live up to the billing I gave him for a second day in a row.

Wednesday Line Up

It is the turn of Paul Nicholson to sit out on Wednesday with Mark Webster coming back in for his second day of action. That means we have overall leader Wessel Nijman, second placed David Evans, third placed Andy Jenkins and the two early stragglers Webster and Raymond van Barneveld competing in their homes over the course of an important afternoon for most if not all of the players on show in this group.

Outright Betting

For the first time this week I think the prices are about right. The market has reacted to the form of Wessel Nijman and he is now 2/1 to win this group. To be fair based on the two days of action we’ve seen thus far that could easily be considered value but he’s due a dip at some point and with the other four men surely sharper for their runs I’m reluctant to get too involved. If I was having a punt in this market I’ve been impressed with David Evans and he could be worth a bet at 4/1 but like I say I think the odds are about right.

Match Betting

I will have a couple of match bets though and they are the two which have already served me well this week. The first of those is for Wessel Nijman to cover 1.5 legs against Andy Jenkins. Jenkins won three matches on Tuesday but only once did he average more than 90 whereas in his eight matches this week, Nijman has only averaged less than 92 on one occasion. The Dutch player looks in great form at the minute on the scoring and on the finishing and I expect him to have a bit in hand against Jenkins once again.

The final match of the afternoon sees David Evans taking on Mark Webster and after Evans beat Webster on Monday I’m happy to take him again here. Evans has only lost three matches this week but two of those were against the seemingly unstoppable Nijman. The other was in a deciding leg against Andy Jenkins when Evans averaged six point higher than his opponent. Webster played on Monday but in three of his four matches failed to average 85. Evans is performing to a better standard and can win this.

Tips

Back W.Nijman (-1.5 legs) to beat A.Jenkins for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill

WON – Back D.Evans to beat M.Webster for a 3/10 stake at 1.73 with William Hill
