The last quarter of the PDC World Championship draw is the bottom one where Gerwyn Price is the main seed, in a section where there are a lot of big names, many of whom have records which flatter to deceive at Alexandra Palace.
Few are actually worse than that of the Welshman so there could well be some value to be had in what is an extremely competitive market behind the favourite, with some real household names looking to showcase their talents.

Preview
This is another one of those quarters where one half looks significantly stronger on paper than the other. Looking at the red section and all four seeds are top drawer which always makes for a tough section. Any one of those could be the world champion on January 1 so this is a nice section to follow. The other reason why it is so interesting is the appearance of Fallon Sherrock, a woman who averaged in the high 90s in qualifying and who will put the wind up someone if she plays to that level. Jose de Sousa and Damon Heta could play out the pick of the first round matches.
The green section doesn’t look anything like as tough and in truth Gerwyn Price should have few troubles making his way through to the quarter final from it. Sport doesn’t work out that way however and when you think this will be his sixth World Championship yet only once has he come past the first round, he might not be the certainty he is being portrayed to be. His advantage is that John Henderson, Simon Whitlock and Mervyn King all have ordinary records here over the last 5-6 years and only the latter is in any kind of form. Women’s world champion Mikuru Suzuki probably won’t make it too deep but there is little in her initial draw that would scare here.
Betting
I was looking to oppose Price in the green half of this quarter but the simple fact of the matter is that there is nobody to truly do it with heading into the tournament. Given that the Grand Slam champion has only won two matches here in five years, both in the same year, I’m in no rush to get stuck in at 5/4 either I have to say. The other half is much harder but I’ll put faith in my outright bet.
I think Glen Durrant will be right up for this tournament and I actually think he is the best player in the red section so with that in mind the 8/1 that he wins the quarter looks a touch on the high side. I accept Mensur Suljovic and Daryl Gurney are tough rivals but if Durrant sees them off he certainly wouldn’t be 8/1 to beat Price in a worst case scenario quarter final. When you think Suljovic has only been past the second round twice in his last seven attempts here and Gurney has only been past that stage once in six goes, the task might not be as hard as it looks for the BDO champion.
