2020 Premier League Darts – Night 13 Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League Darts season resumes from the mini-break with four consecutive nights of action by the end of which we will know the identity of the four men who will be competing in the play-offs whenever they get held.

The season returns on Wednesday evening with four more matches and with games beginning to run out for those chasing berths in the semi-finals each fixture is beginning to carry extra significance which should make for plenty of drama.

Glen Durrant vs Michael Smith

It is fitting that the return to action begins with the man who currently tops the table in the form of Glen Durrant. He takes on Michael Smith whose missed doubles towards the end of last week have seen him playing catch up on the top four now.

This is a match Smith can’t afford to lose but if he scores like he did last week when the match could be on him and how he hits his doubles. Durrant hasn’t mathematically qualified yet but nobody has ever missed out with the 19pts he currently has so it remains to be seen whether he can keep his intensity high for the next four evenings with no crowds or anything to motivate him. My gut feeling is that Smith might win this but he’s missing far too many doubles for me to back him.

Daryl Gurney vs Gary Anderson

The second match of the night is another one of those where it is a lot bigger for one player than the other. On this occasion it is a big night for Gary Anderson as he looks to cement his spot in the top four when he goes up against Daryl Gurney who is playing purely for competitive practice and the hope that he might win a few more quid by moving up a spot in the table.

All things point to this being a pretty easy win for Anderson and that is near enough how I see it although Gurney has already put a spanner in the works of in recent nights and he shouldn’t be completely written off. I’m not a backer of players throwing second at odds on as there is just too much pressure on them the longer the match goes so I’ll watch and see if Anderson wins but I can live without backing him to do so.

Peter Wright vs Michael van Gerwen

The pick of the matches on the first night this week is without doubt the third game of the night as the current and previous world champions battle it out when Peter Wright takes on Michael van Gerwen in a clash that carries plenty of significance.

Van Gerwen managed to make his way back into the top four when he beat Michael Smith to round off last week but he is not safely in there yet and if he loses here he becomes a sitting duck once again. Wright dropped out of the top four with a disastrous end to last week results wise but he isn’t playing badly at all and if he can just tidy his displays up then he is entitled to go very close to winning this match and making his way back into the top four. Both men have question marks over them though so I’m finding this a pretty easy one to swerve.

Gerwyn Price vs Nathan Aspinall

The final match of the night sees the two men either side of the semi-final line heading into the evening battling it out when Gerwyn Price takes on Nathan Aspinall with the winner starting to look good for a semi-final spot.

These two met last week and Aspinall won 7-1 but their displays have gone in opposite directions since then. Price has been on the up and has wins over Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright to his name while Aspinall has been on the slide with missed doubles costing him dearly. It is those missed doubles which catch my attention here because I’m not sure Aspinall scores to a level that is sustained enough to be able to afford then, and given that he throws second in this match I don’t see the pressure on those finishing efforts being any less. Price is in a nice groove right now, is finishing well and is looking closer to his best. I think if there is a winner here it will be him.
