The final round of the PGA Tour season takes place on Monday in Atlanta when both the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup champion is determined on what is always one of the highlights of the golfing calendar these days.
The cream began the week at the top with the applied handicap system used in this event and it has certainly stayed there which has set up a fascinating final 18 holes of what has been one of the strangest seasons in memory with the Covid-19 pandemic changing so much.
Round 3 Recap
We might have had joint leaders heading into the third round but we certainly don’t after it. That is because Dustin Johnson has smashed his way to the front and The Northern Trust winner will take a five shot lead into the last 18 holes with him. He sits on 19 under with Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas his nearest challengers. They are back at 14 under with the BMW Championship winner Jon Rahm another shot back on 13 under. We then have the USPGA champion Collin Morikawa on 12 under and they are the only players within eight of Johnson’s lead.
It wasn’t really a good day for our bets on Sunday. Brendon Todd was right in the mix in the 72 hole betting event but his level par lost a lot of ground to the field and we are going to need him to shoot something in the middle 60s in the final round if he is going to place let along have any chance of possibly winning that event. The two out in front have their eyes on the bigger prize though so we’re not out of it yet.
Monday Betting
We only really have the outright market to get stuck into on Monday and let’s be honest there isn’t really much point in betting in that because it is going to take an insane effort from someone to deny Johnson the title or he is going to have to blow up. The latter doesn’t look like happening right now when you consider he won the first play-off event and lost a play-off in the second one. Prior to that he had the 54 hole lead in the USPGA Championship so he is in insane form at the minute. Pressure can do strange things to players out in front but I would say you are taking a huge risk backing anyone else. The market isn’t for me.

Monday 2 Balls
As has been the case all week the final round will be played out with the players going out in two balls with the final pair off the first tee teeing off at 18.55 BST. That will see Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele paired alongside each other with Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm out 10 minutes prior to that. Rory McIlroy will spend his final round as the FedEx Cup champion out alongside Brendon Todd. I’ll go with one bet to end the week which comes in an identical two ball to what we started our betting week with.
Collin Morikawa vs Daniel Berger
Match tees off at 18.35 BST
The week started with Collin Morikawa out alongside Daniel Berger and the pair will finish playing the last 18 holes together as well. We won with Daniel Berger on Friday but it is actually the USPGA champion that I like the look of here.
I mentioned on Friday that Morikawa can just take 18 holes or so to get himself going on these courses he plays for the first time and that seems to be how he has played the week. He was one over for Friday but since then he has carded rounds of 65 and 67 so he has found his way round. His 67 on Sunday was with a load of bogeys so if he just tidies his game up a little bit there is a real low one in this for him. It finally all clicked for Berger on Sunday and he shot a 64 as a result, a round he finished off with three straight birdies but it is never easy to follow a low round up with another one. Morikawa is all class when he gets the hang of courses and I fancy he can reverse the result with Berger from Friday.
