2020 Vitality T20 Blast – Monday 31st August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We have four matches in the Vitality Blast to enjoy on Bank Holiday Monday including a televised double header as the domestic T20 competition continues to bowl along at a pretty decent pace as we head towards September.

The North Group and the Central Group are the two that are in operation over the course of a pretty long day on Monday, with the televised action coming from the North Group while the other two matches have live streams via the counties themselves.

North Group

Such is the modern times with the Covid restrictions and everything that the two televised matches must both come from the same venue. On this occasion that is Headingley where the double header begins with Leicestershire taking on Durham with both teams looking for their first win of the campaign. The second match in front of the cameras sees Derbyshire looking to make up for their mauling here on Sunday when they take on Lancashire. In a weird twist of fate, the side who usually play at Headingley, Yorkshire, are away on Monday when they go up against unbeaten Nottinghamshire in the reverse of the washout on the opening night.

Central Group

There is only one match away from the North Group on Monday and it comes from New Road in Worcester where the 2018 champions Worcestershire will look to kick their campaign into life after their defeat to Northants on Saturday. They host a Gloucestershire side who were also beaten on Saturday when they went down to Glamorgan. That makes this one a match both teams will be keen to come out on top in.

TV Match Betting

I’ll go with one bet in each of the TV matches over the course of Monday. In the first of them I like the look of Colin Ackermann to cover his 30.5pt performance line. Ackermann is a serious player at this level and he’s been in great touch in the Bob Willis Trophy with the bat and there is no reason why that won’t continue against a Durham bowling attack that is already leaking plenty of runs. Durham have already shipped 190/3 and 185/4 in this competition so Ackermann should fancy his chances of going big with the bat. It isn’t just about his batting though. He is likely to bowl four overs of spin and it was spin which took six of the 14 wickets that fell here on Sunday on the same pitch which will be used for this match. Ackermann is also likely to field in catching positions so he has plenty of scoring possibilities and with that in mind I don’t think a 30.5pt target is high enough.

In the other game later in the evening the 10/11 on Lancashire hitting the highest first six overs has to be seen as a good bet. I say that because this is a very young Derbyshire bowling attack that is going into battle in this competition whereas Lancashire utilise a bit of experience in the early part of their bowling innings even without the bowlers they are missing. Keaton Jennings and Alex Davies were in good touch in the opening game for Lancashire but should one of them go early then it isn’t as though Steven Croft can’t get on with it. Derbyshire’s strength is with the bat but they like to build a platform early on which makes me think Lancashire are likely to get the highest first six over score.

Other Match Betting

The other bet I like across the course of Monday is for there to be more than 335.5 runs in the match between Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire at Trent Bridge. Trent Bridge is generally a high scoring ground and there is no reason why that wouldn’t remain the case here it has to be said. Both teams go into the match after scoring big runs in their only innings to date as well with Nottinghamshire plundering 185 up at Durham and Yorkshire taking Derbyshire for 220.

That means the batting line ups are in decent nick and while Nottinghamshire scored well, they still allowed a pretty ordinary Durham side to score 180 themselves which would be a concern. There isn’t a whole lot in this Yorkshire bowling attack to worry a strong Nottinghamshire top six so I find it hard to believe that on such a high scoring ground that we’re not going to get plenty of runs. I’m happy to be on the over here.
