2020 Vitality T20 Blast – Thursday 17th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We are heading towards the end of the group stage of the Vitality Blast and we move further towards it on Thursday evening when two matches take place in the North Group on a night where top spot in that section could be near enough wrapped up.

With the international schedule now concluded we have one match of the two on TV which is the reverse Roses clash, while there will be a decent live stream on offer for those who want to keep tabs on the other match. We’ll begin with the Roses game even though it is the later start.

Lancashire vs Yorkshire (18.35)

Lancashire can wrap up their quarter final spot on Thursday night when they host Yorkshire in the second Roses clash of the competition at Old Trafford. The Red Rose took the spoils at Headingley on Monday evening and will be eyeing up the double here. Yorkshire already know their fate in this tournament so they are looking to play the role of the spoiler.

To be fair to Yorkshire, their plans for the previous Roses match was heavily hampered by four players being pulled out at the last minute because of Covid protocols. Those four players remain out here but they do have Joe Root back for this match which will be a boost to them. Lancashire also have a returning England man in their ranks in the form of Saqib Mahmood. You’ve got to think with the players Yorkshire are missing that Lancashire are the likely winners here but that is represented in the odds and I’m always wary of taking on a side playing with freedom, especially when they are doing it with the likes of Dawid Malan and Joe Root in their ranks.

We do have the advantage of knowing the dimensions of the ground here though as the match will be played on the same pitch the ODI was played on throughout Wednesday and there is a short boundary to one side so I’m expecting to see plenty of sixes here. Even if Mahmood back you wouldn’t say either attack is watertight and there are enough decent hitters of a ball to clear the ropes especially to that short side. The sixes line is only 9.5 and with sixes coming at will on Wednesday I see no reason why this line doesn’t get cleared.

Nottinghamshire vs Derbyshire (18.00)

The other match on the night sees the leaders of the North Group in Nottinghamshire taking on their local rivals Derbyshire in what is effectively a dead rubber as Nottinghamshire are already through while Derbyshire can no longer quality.

Technically Nottinghamshire need to keep winning to host a quarter final so there is something on the match for them but we’ve seen it plenty of times in the past that when a team has progressed to the next stage they ease off the gas especially in times like this when matches come along thick and fast. You wouldn’t think Derbyshire could win this but they have enough dangerous players for me to leave this one well alone.
