2020 Vitality T20 Blast – Wednesday 16th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Vitality Blast continues on Wednesday with another five matches and as the group stage of the tournament begins to wind down every match that takes place now carries extra significance and is vital for those chasing the quarter final spots.

The one day international is the centre of attention as far as the TV coverage is concerned so as has been the case for most of this competition, we are reduced to the various live streams to keep on top of the action.

North Group

There is one match from the North Group on Wednesday evening and it is a big one for the two sides involved when Yorkshire host Durham in a key match. Yorkshire go into the contest sat in fourth in the table with Durham a place behind them and with matches running out it is fair to say that whoever loses this will see their already slim hopes of making it to the quarter finals come to an end. This is very much win or bust for both teams.

Central Group

There is one match in the Central Group on Wednesday as well and it is pretty much the same situation as the North Group game for the two sides involved. Glamorgan host Somerset down at Cardiff in a match between fifth and fourth and after a disastrous start to their campaigns whoever loses this will be eliminated. As it is the winners are still going to have their work cut out to force their way into the top three but they will retain an outside chance of that happening.

South Group

We have a full round of matches in the South Group where the leaders Surrey will look to all but sew up a quarter final spot when they go up against a Sussex side who are in third place but who will leap over their opponents should they come out on top at The Oval. Kent play host to Middlesex in another key game where Kent will be pretty much through if they win while Middlesex have to win to retain any chance of qualifying. The other match is a dead rubber as Hampshire host Essex at the Ageas Bowl. Both teams know they are unable to qualify now.

Betting

It is a busy night of action but there is only one bet for me at this stage. I say at this stage because I’ll be keeping a keen eye on the Yorkshire twitter feeds and things to find out whether the four players who were withdrawn on Monday miss out again. If they do then I’ll be all over Durham at Headingley but until that is confirmed I’ll keep my powder dry and focus on Sussex to beat Surrey at The Oval.

I’ve been keen on Surrey in recent weeks but it is worrying me that their bowling attack are starting to go round the park and without disrespecting Middlesex, if they are ploughing it to all parts then this Sussex batting line up with Phil Salt back at the top of the order certainly can. Gareth Batty is often the man who dries up the flow of runs but he is out injured. Surrey have been fighting fire with fire with the bat but Laurie Evans can’t play in this game as he’s on loan from Sussex so that is a blow. If we were betting in an ideal world Chris Jordan would be available for Sussex but even without him they have a decent enough attack with Tymal Mills, Ollie Robinson, Ravi Bopara, Danny Briggs and either Will Beer or David Wiese. I think the Surrey absentees are more key than Sussex missing Jordan overall so I’ll take the visitors in this one.

Tips

Back Sussex to beat Surrey for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
