The second season of the Remote Darts League moves into its sixth night of action on Saturday as four more players once again take to their home oches to continue to provide us with some live sporting entertainment during lockdown.
The league table is beginning to take shape in the competition now and with everyone on show playing three matches there is a feeling that each night of action is going to gather in significance and importance from here on in.
The Format
The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.
At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Friday Recap
Friday was a night where the American men put themselves in the mix towards the front end of the table. Things got underway with Jim Williams getting the better of Lorraine WInstanley 6-2 before Larry Butler came out on top against his American counterpart Joe Chaney 6-1 in a match where the veteran hit a barrage of 180s. Butler then maintained his form to beat Winstanley without dropping a leg before Chaney got back to winning ways with a fine 6-3 success over Williams. He then edged past Winstanley 6-4 before the night was brought to a close when Butler and Williams played out a decent looking draw.
It was the first poor night of the tournament for us from a betting point of view. We expected close matches on the evening, and they did indeed come, but they arrived too late for us as they came in the final two matches when we wanted them in the first two games that Joe Chaney was involved in. That leaves us with a bit of work to do in order to get back to winning ways ahead of the Saturday matches.

Preview
The runner up from season one Paul Hogan is the star attraction on this sixth night of action, but we have to wait a while before we get to see him because it is the French ace Thibault Tricole and the reigning Winmau World Masters winner John O’Shea who get the night underway. Hogan is in action in game two when he takes on Tina Osborne, who will be looking to put on a better display than she did on her first night in the tournament. She will then stay on to face the French ace Tricole to take us to the halfway mark of the night.
It is all about Paul Hogan for the early part of the second half of the session. He meets John O’Shea in the match which promises to be the pick of the games on Saturday and then he’ll battle Tricole where he will be hoping things have gone to plan to the extent that he is looking for a third victory on the evening. The final match of the night sees O’Shea facing Osborne which is one the Irishman will be expected to dominate.
Betting
Thibault Tricole served us well in his opening night of the tournament but I thought his scoring was a little patchy and over the 10 leg distance I think he could be vulnerable here unless that improves significantly. I am tempted to take him on in both the matches he plays against the men on the night but John O’Shea’s doubling concerned me and he made no secret of the fact it was annoying him on his first evening of action. If he has rectified that his scoring power should see him home but he’s a sitting duck if he hasn’t. I can afford to leave that.
Although Paul Hogan still has the odd mare on his doubles he is a lot more reliable on the outer ring than O’Shea and I will take the runner up of last season to beat Tricole at around the 5/6 mark. Hogan is a consistent scorer and when his missed doubles do come along they tend to be in the one leg and then he’ll forget it and get back to normal. Hogan has the throw in this match so if he gets off to a solid start he could jump clear and put the pressure on the doubling of the Frenchman. Hogan is a class act and even his B game will have him competitive in this company. That 5/6 on a Hogan win should be nearer 4/6 in my eyes.
