2020 WDF Remote Darts League 2 – Sunday 24th May Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The first week of the second season of the Remote Darts League concludes on Sunday evening when once again four players toe their home oches in a bid to get more points and to keep us entertained during lockdown.

We have an international line up on show on Sunday and some very good darts players, who should deliver some excellent matches and a high standard. As ever we have six matches to keep us going throughout the evening.

The Format

The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.

At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Saturday Recap

It was a good night for Paul Hogan and Thibault Tricole on Saturday evening as they both went unbeaten from their three matches to catapult themselves right into contention as we approach the halfway mark in the league phase. Tricole got the ball rolling with a 6-2 win over John O’Shea before Hogan fired into life with a 6-0 win over Tina Osborne. Tricole then matched that success and scoreline before Paul Hogan and O’Shea played out a 5-5 draw. Hogan then drew with Tricole before O’Shea finally got a win on the board when he too beat Osborne 6-0.

It was the most annoying night so far for us in terms of betting on this competition. We backed Paul Hogan to see off Thibault Tricole and the Englishman led 5-2 and at 5-3 he proceeded to miss 10 darts at a double which would have sealed a comfortable and at that stage deserved 6-3 victory to bring our bet in. He didn’t win that leg and the Frenchman threw an excellent last leg for a proper ballache of a loser.

Preview

There is a nice international flavour to events on Sunday night and we get underway with the two players based furthest west of the four when Tony O’Shea meets Stacey Pace before two of the form players on the WDF scene before the lockdown meet to start off their evening as Darren Herewini goes up against Richard Veenstra. Veenstra then stays on for what could be the match of the night as he faces O’Shea in a cracking looking contest.

The second half of the evening is where the New Zealand star Darren Herewini will look to make his move, and after losing all three of his matches on his opening night of action. He meets Pace in game four of the evening before staying on to take on Tony O’Shea who has drawn a bit of a short straw here facing two class acts immediately after they just played. The session concludes with Pace going up against Veenstra.

Betting

This is another tricky night of action to bet on because missed doubles are once again likely to be a theme based on their efforts when they were first on show, but there is one bet that I think is overpriced and it comes in match three of the evening when Richard Veenstra goes up against the former world finalist Tony O’Shea, in a match the Dutchman is expected to win, and if he is clinical on his doubles he should win but I’m looking at another market for my bet.

That is the most 180s market where I’m a little surprised that Veenstra is odds against to hit the most maximums. O’Shea has never been the biggest 180 hitter in the world and on his first night in the tournament he didn’t hit a single maximum in any of his three matches. Veenstra hit six 180s in what was his first night of online darts as he admitted and he is likely to come on for the run so to speak and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him score even better here. He is the better scorer of the two so rather than walk into another shitshow on the doubles I’ll play the Dutchman to hit the most 180s.
