The four players yet to do so get their Remote Darts League campaign underway on Thursday evening as the second season moves into a fourth night of the 21 that will take place to keep us entertained throughout lockdown.
We’ve seen many of the main protagonists over the course of the first three nights of the tournament, and it is the current leader of the BDO rankings, Jim Williams, who is the headline attraction on Thursday night.
The Format
The league phase of the competition will see the 16 players play each other once over the best of 10 legs across the first 20 nights of the season, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Four players play each night and compete in three matches in the sessions they play, so all 16 players will play in just five of the first 20 evenings of the campaign.
At the end of the league phase the top four will go into the playoffs on the final night where the semi-finals are played over the best of 15 legs and the winner will be determined over the best of 19 legs. The entire tournament is being streamed on the Remote Darts League YouTube channel and various bookmaker websites.

Wednesday Recap
It was a pretty competitive start to the night and good for our outright bet as Justin Thompson overcame Tony O’Shea 6-3. It actually wasn’t a good night to have the throw initially as Lorraine Winstanley had it twice but failed to use it to her advantage on both occasions. Her first loss was 6-2 against Thibault Tricole and then O’Shea beat her 6-0. Thompson then returned to see off Tricole 6-2 before the Frenchman picked up his second win of the night when he defeated Tony O’Shea 6-3. The night concluded with Thompson whitewashing Winstanley 6-0.
It was a quiet night for us from a betting point of view but it was one where we kept the 100% record for this tournament intact as our only bet was a winner. It came in the match between Thibault Tricole and Tony O’Shea where we backed the Frenchman to deliver the goods and he duly obliged at a tidy 7/5 price. That makes it four winners from four bets for us in RDL2 so far.

Preview
There is a bit of a North American feel to proceedings on Thursday evening and we get underway with two players from that part of the world battling it out when Stacey Pace takes on David Cameron for their opening points of the campaign. The last two players to get their season started are BDO number one and World Championship finalist Jim Williams and World Masters winner John O’Shea. They collide in game two of the night before Williams stays on to face Pace in the third game of the evening.
The fourth match of the night is one of the two really intriguing games on the evening. That sees O’Shea and Cameron facing off in a match that either could legitimately win and that is reflected in the odds. O’Shea then stays on to finish his first evening of action when he faces Stacey Pace before the pick of the matches on the fourth night of the campaign concludes proceedings when Canadian star David Cameron meets Jim Williams.
Betting
Much like Wednesday, this is a tricky night to bet on because we are seeing three more protagonists for the first time and there is an element of doubt as to what they might bring. There is one match though where I’m not sure the bookies have it right and as such I’m going to get involved in that game. It comes in the fourth game of the night where the reigning Winmau World Masters champion John O’Shea meets David Cameron.
I can’t say I’m a massive fan of John O’Shea but you don’t win an event like the World Masters if you don’t know which end of the dart to hold and so in his own surroundings we might just see why he is indeed the current holder of that title. I’ve seen him on Twitter mentioning online leagues he has played in or is playing in and he beat Chris Dobey with a 100+ average over 17 legs in one of them so that form line has to be taken into consideration here. David Cameron is a decent player in his own right but I’ve not seen his name in the online circles much which might see him at a disadvantage here. At this stage of the tournament we have to use a bit of guesswork and what we know from competitions that have gone on and that leads me to think O’Shea can get the job done here, although after a good week so far I’ll play him on the draw no bet market in case Cameron offers something.
