2020 World Championship Snooker – Day 14 Tips and Betting Preview

The opening day of the semi-finals of the World Championship is always a big day in the tournament and it certainly didn’t disappoint on Wednesday, which means that we are all set up for a fantastic middle day of action in them as we head towards determining who will make the final of the event.

In many ways we have two surprise scores to take forward into Thursday’s play which is only going to make things more interesting. By the end of the day we might get a clearer picture over who it will be who will be competing for the trophy and half a million smackers over the weekend.

Wednesday Recap

When the semi-final draw was confirmed most people were expecting Kyren Wilson to be the finalist from the top half but clearly Anthony McGill hasn’t read that script as it is he who heads into Thursday with a commanding 6-2 lead which actually might have been even bigger but for a steal from Wilson. The other semi-final is more delicately poised at 5-3 to Ronnie O’Sullivan but both he and Mark Selby are likely to be happy with that score as O’Sullivan led 4-1 at one point so Ronnie will be pleased to be ahead going into session two and Selby glad to be in touch still.

In Play Betting

I said in my semi-final preview that I would expect to get involved in the first semi at some point and that time has come. I’m not going to get involved in the result of it because I’m delighted with the start that our outright pick Anthony McGill has made as he looks to secure the place money. I’m aware it isn’t going to be straightforward from here but we can’t not be delighted with such a start.

I think the bet in this semi-final now is for both players to make a century break at 10/11. There is still plenty of mileage in this one I feel and it is one of those matches that when one plays well the other will follow. Kyren Wilson can’t possibly play as badly as he did in the first session again but other than the burden of expectancy of winning from here, there is nothing to suggest that McGill will fade away. Much has been made of McGill not making a ton in the tournament so far but he did everything but in the first session. I expect the scoring to improve with two sessions on Thursday so 10/11 on both to score a ton before this ends looks good to me.
