It is the final day of the World Series of Darts Finals on Sunday where the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final will be played out on a busy day in Austria as we look to find the latest winner of a TV title in the sport.
We now know that winner will not be Michael van Gerwen after he bit the dust on Saturday evening. That is likely to leave eight men who will believe they can win the tournament which should make for a very competitive day of darts. Unfortunately the usual time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview the semi-finals and final in the evening but we can look at the afternoon quarter finals.
Peter Wright vs Daryl Gurney
The opening quarter final of the competition sees the world champion Peter Wright in action when he goes up against a Daryl Gurney for whom this is a chance to secure a spot in another televised semi-final to make up for missing out on a last four spot in the Premier League.
This one feels like it could be more competitive than the odds suggest with Gurney having won two of their three meetings this year but I’m guessing with MVG out of the way Wright is going to look to assume control of the event like he did at The Masters earlier in the year so Gurney will need to play well to win this. There are a couple of bets which you could take involving Gurney here but his inconsistency is a slight concern so I’ll sit the opener out.
Gerwyn Price vs Nathan Aspinall
It might well be that the second quarter final is the pick of the four matches in the afternoon session as Gerwyn Price takes on Nathan Aspinall for a spot in the semi-final against the winner of the first match of the day.
Both these men are capable of winning tournaments when MVG is still in the field let alone when he isn’t but both players will be aware that there is an opening for them here which is likely to tighten and tense everything up. These two have played out a couple of entertaining Premier League matches recently and a Players Championship final from earlier in the year. Aspinall won all three and he’s good value to win this one but I’m already on him outright so I’ll leave this alone too.

Glen Durrant vs James Wade
Glen Durrant did the field a remarkable favour on Saturday night when he got rid of Michael van Gerwen and he’ll look to push on and make the semi-final at the expense of James Wade when the two men meet in the third game on Sunday.
I wonder if Wade feels he has something to prove this weekend after he was left out of the Premier League and hasn’t had the sort of competition that the others remaining have had. If he does then he made a good start with a fine win over Jeff Smith. Durrant continued his exceptional record over MVG on Saturday night but he’s got that age old issue of having to back up an emotionally tough match so quickly and for all Duzza is top quality I think that could find him out against a competitor as tough as Wade is. These two have met once this year which Wade won and with Durrant potentially likely to be a little flat I think the southpaw is value to win here too.
Michael Smith vs Rob Cross
The final match of the afternoon is the one where the opportunity really lies for one of the two men involved as Michael Smith takes on Rob Cross with both men entering the tournament out of form but now with a clear path to the final should they find something close to their best darts.
Smith hasn’t been getting the results he would like recently but missed doubles have been the root of his issues rather than overall poor play. Cross has been very ordinary for a year or so and his problems have been raised in various TV broadcasts with him struggling heavily with his action. That makes me think that Smith is the man most likely to win this but I wouldn’t want to be on at odds on with the way he is finishing at present so this is a pretty easy match to leave alone.
