2021 ATP Cincinnati: Western & Southern Open – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

The Western & Southern Open continues on Tuesday evening when there is a mixture of first and second round matches in the ATP Cincinnati competition as we get into the meat and potatoes of the latest Masters 1000 event.

We saw some good tennis on Monday when the rain relented for the action to take place and I’m not expecting anything less than that on Tuesday when the bigger names begin to enter the fray and look to progress in the event.

Center Court

There are just the two matches on the Center Court mixed in with the women’s matches that are also taking place on the main court. The day session match sees the powerful Italian player Matteo Berrettini making his return to the court for the first time since the Wimbledon final when he meets Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The night session contest sees the Olympic champion playing for the first time since he won that gold medal as Alexander Zverev goes up against Lloyd Harris in a good looking match.

Grandstand

We have the three men’s matches on the Grandstand court with the first of them opening up the action as the former champion Grigor Dimitrov will be looking to revive the good memories of old when he takes on Roberto Bautista Agut before the American star John Isner meets a Cameron Norrie who is enjoying a wonderful season. The other match on this court comes in the night session where Denis Shapovalov will look to put a terrible display on home soil last week behind him when he meets Benoit Paire.

Stadium 3

There is more men’s action over on Stadium 3 where we start out in the first round when the promising young American player Sebastian Korda meets Laslo Djere in a match the home man will be expected to win. When they are done perhaps the tie of the first round takes place as Aslan Karatsev meets a Marin Cilic who is just beginning to show signs of life again. The action on this court concludes as far as the men are concerned with the entertaining Gael Monfils going up against Dusan Lajovic.

Best of the Rest

There is plenty more action on the outside courts as the competition looks to catch up fully after the rain on Monday. Court 10 is one of the courts where men’s action takes place with the likes of Alexander Bublik, the Toronto finalist Reilly Opelka and Fabio Fognini headline the action while out on Court 8 we get to see the likes of Hubert Hurkacz and Lorenzo Sonego getting their tournament underway in among the various doubles matches out on that part of the grounds.

Betting

My betting interest on Tuesday comes on the Grandstand court where I expect Roberto Bautista Agut to get us off to a winning start by covering a 2.5 game handicap when he takes on a Grigor Dimitrov whose form looks to have completely deserted him right now. The Bulgarian has won just two of his last 12 matches and in both the hard court events he has played recently he has lost in straight sets. The one to Reilly Opelka in Toronto last week doesn’t look so bad after the American made the final of that event but the one to Ilya Ivashka in Washington was more of a concern. I don’t expect him to fare much better here against a Bautista Agut who looked in decent touch in Toronto last week before the schedule went against him a little. He’s had a few days to freshen up and go again here and I expect the Spaniard to win this one with a bit in hand.

The other bet I’ll take is for the first set of the match between John Isner and Cameron Norrie to go to a tiebreak. These two have met twice in their career to date and both matches went to a tiebreak and I don’t really see a reason why this one won’t either in the heart of the day when the humidity is sure to make the ball fly through the air. Norrie is having a fine season and although he has gone a little quiet since winning the title in Mexico a few weeks ago, he now belongs at this level. Isner’s serve is never easy to get after while Norrie can use his leftie serve to good effort and you’d expect the Brit to be able to win the rallies behind any serves that do come back. I like the first set to go the distance here.

Tips

Back R.Bautista Agut (-2.5 games) to beat G.Dimitrov for a 3/10 stake at 1.80 with BetVictor

Back J.Isner vs C.Norrie – First set tiebreak for a 3/10 stake at 2.80 with BetVictor
