2021 ATP Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open Tennis – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The second round of the BNP Paribas Open draws to a close on Sunday as the ATP Indian Wells tournament continues out in California as we move a step closer to crowning another Masters 1000 winner in the year.

We saw some excellent tennis as the seeded players came to the part on Saturday evening and when you look at the cast list on Sunday and the competitiveness one or two of the matches look, we should get more decent action to enjoy.

Stadium 1

There are only two men’s matches on the main stadium court on Sunday, one in each session. In the day session we have to wait until the third match for the hugely anticipated clash between the American rising star Jenson Brooksby and the Olympic champion Alexander Zverev. The men then open the night session when the French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas gets his challenge underway. He takes on the Spanish player Pedro Martinez who might be an awkward customer here.

Stadium 2

There are three matches on the Stadium 2 on Sunday and the men get the action underway when out pre-tournament outright pick Matteo Berrettini takes on the Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo who is having a good run so far this week. When they are done it is the old against the new when Andy Murray bids for a place in the third round when he takes on the young Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz. We have to wait until the night session for the third men’s match and that sees the American favourite John Isner looking to progress at the expense of Yoshihito Nishioka.

Stadium 3

There are three men’s matches on Stadium 3 on Sunday as well and as has been the case all week so far, they all come along in the opening three games. The first of them sees John Millman taking on Jannik Sinner before two Americans step onto court to face off against each other when Brandon Nakashima meets Taylor Fritz. The third and final men’s match on this court sees our other pre-tournament pick in action when Felix Auger-Aliassime meets the Spanish veteran Albert Ramos-Vinolas, who might just like these conditions.

Best of the Rest

That leaves eight other men’s matches around the grounds on the outside courts. Each one has a seeded player in it with Lorenzo Sonego, Cristian Garin, Alex de Minaur and Karen Khachanov some of the seeds who can be seen on the lesser courts. Others include Nikoloz Basilashvili, Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini and Pablo Carreno Busta so if you have a ticket for the grounds or a spare device to stream more matches there is plenty of action to get stuck into.

Betting

I was hoping to get a decent price on Brandon Nakashima to beat Taylor Fritz but the market has reacted to my expectations and that is no longer on offer so I’ll just take the one bet which comes in the form of Carlos Alcaraz to beat Andy Murray in conditions which should actually suit the Spaniard nicely here. I’m not convinced they suit Murray and his indifferent record around here would support that, even if he did look fairly good in his opening match.

Alcaraz has won a couple of lesser events on the clay and had a good run at the French Open so although he thrived in the fast conditions in New York, there are signs that these slower conditions will be no obstacle for him. He has gunpowder power in his forehand so he’ll be able to get the ball through the court which is something Murray failed to do against Mannarino on Friday. There is a lot of talk that Murray has only lost to top 20 players since Wimbledon and that is a fair fact but Alcaraz is well on his way to that spot in the rankings and he can get there with a win over Murray here.

Back C.Alcaraz to beat A.Murray for a 3/10 stake at 1.80 with Bet365
