2021 ATP Miami Open Tennis – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of the ATP Miami Open sees the first round of the tournament continuing around the grounds of the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida on a day where 16 matches in the men’s draw of the event take place.

We saw some decent action on Wednesday and while we wait for the seeded players to enter the fray over the weekend there are still enough big names on show on Thursday to keep us entertained throughout the day.

Grandstand

With this tournament sharing the facilities with the women’s event that is also going on this week there are just two men’s matches on the main court on Thursday. It is actually the women who get things underway before the American qualifier Bjorn Fratangelo meets the veteran Fernando Verdasco. There is another women’s match to finish off the day session with the night session on this court beginning with the men as Sebastian Korda taking on Radu Albot.

Butch Buchholz Court

The secondary Butch Buchholz Court was a woman only zone in terms of the matches on it on Wednesday but it is the men’s draw all the way on Thursday and it starts off with Thanasi Kokkinakis making his return to the Masters 1000 series when he faces the Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki. Jeremy Chardy is then in first round action when he meets the American player Denis Kudla before the former US Open champion Marin Cilic takes to the court. He meets Federico Coria. Another Grand Slam finalist is up fourth on this court as Kevin Anderson begins his campaign. He faces Thiago Monteiro before the action concludes with the wildcard Michael Mmoh taking on the in form Lorenzo Musetti.

Best of the Rest

There are plenty of other matches around the grounds for anyone who is in Miami and going along to the tournament or for those in the UK who have the ability to watch every match via the Prime Video coverage. Two Brits are among the players on show as Jack Draper and Liam Broady take to the courts. More established names on show include Mikhail Kukushkin, Miomir Kecmanovic and the former Briton Aljaz Bedene.

Betting

There isn’t a huge amount that I like over the course of the day on Thursday but after a profitable day on Wednesday I’m happy to top things up on the second day of the tournament. The bet I like comes in one of the later matches onto the court which sees the wildcard Michael Mmoh going up against Lorenzo Musetti who comes in here off the back of a very creditable effort in Acapulco where he made the semi-finals in what was a breakthrough week for the Italian.

It wasn’t just the fact that he made the last four which made it such a good week for him, it was also the fact he took care of the likes of Diego Schwartzman and Grigor Dimitrov before running into a red hot Stefanos Tsitsipas. That comes a few weeks after he made the final of one of the Challenger events in Italy where he took care of a couple of veterans along the way. These early rounds of these Masters 1000 events can often be all about form and it is he who is carrying it in here. Mmoh got some spotlight in Australia when he played Rafael Nadal in the second round of the Australian Open but his limitations were exposed there and can be again here.
