2021 ATP Miami Open Tennis – Day 5 Tips and Betting Preview

The third round of the ATP Miami Open begins on Sunday which means that the seeded players can face each other for the first time across the grounds at the Hard Rock Stadium out in Florida as the tournament goes up a notch from here.

There are just the eight singles matches on the schedule on Sunday and as such they have been condensed into a couple of the courts so the profile and indeed the intensity of everything is likely to increase from here on in.

Grandstand

Two seeded players get the action underway on a Grandstand court where we have three matches to enjoy over the course of the day. That opening game sees Felix Auger-Aliassime taking on the former champion John Isner and then after a women’s match we have the number one seed back on show as Daniil Medvedev takes on the unseeded Australian player Alexei Popyrin. The night session begins with another women’s match but when that is done the home man Frances Tiafoe will hope to light up the evening when he takes on Dusan Lajovic.

Court 1

The other five matches take place on Court 1 on Sunday with Jan-Lennard Struff starting the schedule against a Roberto Bautista Agut who actually plays his first match here after he received a walkover in the previous round. Possibly the match of the day follows them when the exciting Italian youngster Jannik Sinner meets Karen Khachanov for a place in the last 16. Two unseeded men meet in a Scandinavian battle in the middle match of the five as Emil Ruusuvuori will go up against Mikael Ymer. British eyes will be on the penultimate match of the day as the sole survivor from these shores, Cameron Norrie, goes up against Taylor Fritz before Alexander Bublik meets James Duckworth to round off the play.

Betting

I’ll take one over the course of the action on Sunday and it comes in that penultimate game on Court 1 as Cameron Norrie battles Taylor Fritz in what could be another lengthy affair on a court that was full of the things on Saturday. All four matches on the court when three sets on Saturday and if history is anything to go by this could easily be another. The last three meetings between these two – all recent enough to matter – have all gone to a third set which makes you think this is unlikely to be done and dusted quickly.

Norrie has already been to a third set this week which is another thing that bodes well for us to get either a third set or two close ones like he played out in his win over Grigor Dimitrov in the previous round. Fritz eased past Marcos Giron in the second round after a bye to get to that stage but this will be a tougher test against a Norrie who has largely protected his serve well save for a short spell in the first round. Whether it is two tight sets to a three setter I expect to see more than 22.5 games in this one.
