2021 ATP Miami Open Tennis – Day 8 Tips and Betting Preview

The quarter finals of the ATP Miami Open begin on the Grandstand Court at the Hard Rock Stadium complex on Wednesday when the two matches in the top half of the draw are played out on what could be a competitive day of tennis in Florida.

We’ve seen some of the big seeds make it through to the last eight and then there are some in the quarter finals of a Masters 1000 event for the first time so there is a nice blend taking to the court on Wednesday evening.

Day Session

Jannik Sinner vs Alexander Bublik

The opening quarter final of the competition sees two men who have reached this stage for the first time in a Masters 1000 event colliding on what is the biggest day of their career thus far with a spot in the semi-final very much there for the taking for both men, as Jannik Sinner takes on Alexander Bublik.

The rise to the top of the game has been predicted for Sinner for a couple of years now and further progression in this tournament will only speed up that process. His appearance in this quarter final is not all that unexpected but the same probably can’t be said of the Kazakh, who is enjoying a very good week to add onto what has been a decent enough season so far for Bublik, one which has seen him make the final in both Antalya and Singapore in 2021 already. Sinner has won a title this year, landing one of the warm up events in Australia prior to the Australian Open so both men are going well.

This will be their second meeting this month after they met early on in Dubai. That match went to three sets and I think we have to be edging towards this one going in the same direction given the amount of close matches we have seen this week. Both have already come through a three-setter, Sinner against Karen Khachanov and Bublik against Taylor Fritz. The game line here is 22.5 and whether it is done in two tight sets or a three set contest, I like the over to land here.

Night Session

Daniil Medvedev vs Roberto Bautista Agut

The pick of the quarter finals on Wednesday is the one which forms the night session contest as the number one seed and favourite for the title Daniil Medvedev meets the Spaniard who has a decent enough record in Miami in Roberto Bautista Agut.

These two men have already had their challenges this week with Bautista Agut having to pull out all the stops to see off Jan-Lennard Struff and John Isner in three sets while Medvedev was involved in one of the matches of the tournament two rounds ago when he went to three sets against Alexei Popyrin. This might just be the biggest challenge of the week for both men though given the way the two are playing and how the conditions suit their game, so it is hard to think this one will be a quick game, particularly given the defensive qualities they both have.

Interestingly, Bautista Agut has won their previous two meetings and while I’m not convinced enough that he’ll complete the hat-trick to back him to do so, I think he has the game to keep this one close and either take it to a third set or play out a couple of extended sets. I suspect this will be a match which is won and lost on fine margins and so that makes me think the over 21.5 games has plenty of legs here.
