2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup – Sunday 11th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The CONCACAF Gold Cup continues on Sunday evening where a bonus third match has been added to the schedule after the fallout of the late withdrawal of Curacao. That means we have six teams getting their campaign underway.

On what should be a decent night of football over in North America, we have the USA looking to lay down their title credentials while challengers such as Canada and El Salvador will be looking to show that they could have a big part to play in the event.

Canada vs Martinique (23.30)

The pick of the matches on the second evening of action comes along in the first game where a free scoring and confident Canada side go up against a Martinique outfit that shouldn’t be slept on in the opening match in Group B.

If the big two do slip up in this tournament then Canada are one of the teams who are capable of taking advantage but they can’t afford to slip up in this match. Martinique can be dangerous challengers though as we saw in the last Gold Cup when they ran Mexico close in the group stage. They are a side who like to attack and that is certainly the case with Canada. Canada had a blow with Alphonso Davies ruled out of the tournament but they still don’t lack for attacking options and quality and with the Martinique mindset to get players forward I’m not sure a 2.75 goal line will be high enough here. I’ll play the over there.

USA vs Haiti (01.30)

Straight after that match is done the group favourites USA will take to the field in Kansas City. They play their opening match against the qualifiers from Haiti who were free scoring to get into this stage and will be looking to knock someone off their perch now they are here.

We saw on Saturday evening that these qualifiers are battle-hardened and that is to their advantage so it will be interesting to see if Haiti can be competitive against a USA side that might look better on paper than it threatens to deliver. Even then I’m not so sure it is as strong a squad as previous ones have been which would be a concern. I’m going to be doing a lot of assessing sides in this opening round of group matches before expanding the betting portfolio as we go into the competition. These are two teams I’ll keep tabs on so I’ll sit this one out.

El Salvador vs Guatemala (03.30)

The final match on the card on Sunday night sees the two remaining Group A sides getting their campaign underway when El Salvador finally get to take to the pitch when they meet Guatemala rather than the Curacao outfit they were originally scheduled to meet.

This isn’t going to be an easy match for either side because of the late withdrawal of Curacao. Guatemala were involved in the qualifying competition going down on penalties to Guadeloupe which in itself doesn’t bode well but they are freewheeling in this competition from here on in and that could be significant. El Salvador would have prepared for Curacao but won’t have had much time to do their prep for the new opponent so although they are the better side from a ranking standpoint, that is clearly a disadvantage and enough to make me leave this match alone.
