2021 Ebor Meeting – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The Ebor Meeting continues at York on Thursday when another bunch of top class operators grace the Knavesmire for our enjoyment and entertainment. We saw plenty of good racing on the opening day on Wednesday and things should be no different on Thursday.

The Yorkshire Oaks is the big race on the day on Thursday but with an unopposable 4/9 shot heading the market we have little interest in that race so our betting potential comes in the race prior to that, a very competitive handicap.

Preview

This is always one of the better handicaps of the season, the Clipper Logistics over a mile at York.  There’s a field of 19 going to post & it’s as open as ever, with bookies going 13/2 the field.  Astro King, for Sir Michael Stoute & Ryan Moore, edges favouritism after finishing 2nd in the Royal Hunt Cup, winning his side, but a 4lb higher mark coupled with the fact he finished lame on his most recent run is a bit of a concern.  William Haggas has a strong hand, running both Ametist who had won 4 on the spin before finishing midfield when favourite for the Bunbury Cup, and Irish Admiral who retains with potential but has ultimately been disappointing.  Maydanny won for us at Glorious Goodwood but looks harshly treated here whilst La Trinidad is very dangerous should he be upto defying another rise in mark.  David O’Meara likes to target this race & runs Orbaan & Escobar.  Both have chances but are not for me given their recent form / current marks.

Betting

At a price, I’ll take a chance on Fame And Acclaim.  A 4 year old who’s been plying his trade in Ireland until moving to his current yard back in June, he’s a horse that looks to have plenty in his favour today.  A middling draw, ground he’ll go on but perhaps most importantly, a mark he can win off are all positives.  This year, he was 6th in the Irish Lincoln off a mark of 98 before twice finishing 2nd in good Curragh handicaps off 97.   He then moved to these shores & opened up by finishing midfield in the Royal Hunt Cup when perhaps unsuited by the stiff finish & the firmish ground.  Next up he was 3rd on his only start here, finishing 2 lengths behind La Trinidad who he reopposes here on 6lbs better terms & is more than double the price.  He wasn’t disgraced either on his last run when dropped down to 7 furlongs, again finishing 3rd.  The step back up in trip, stronger jockey handling & this big field are other positives so, at the price, I’m happy to get involved.
